I am proud to call myself a total artistic nerd. This is probably why I don't have a boyfriend, but hey, at least I have Papa John's and Ben & Jerry's by my side (though I am not here to sell myself for a hot date).
I quite enjoy being this nerd that loves to read for a living and write for life. And, to add a cherry on top, I am quite the theater fanatic! Theater has been a part of my life since the fourth grade; the obsession continued throughout middle school, and I picked it back up my junior year of high school. My junior year of high school reminded me why I love theater.
After performing "The Wizard of Oz," I found my second family and a place to call home. As Dorothy would say, "There's no place like home." From musicals to drama to absolute Shakespeare, I miss this world more than anything. I miss the music; I miss the glossy wooden stage and the lights shining right on me.
Theater is art; it's a live film built with the art of make-up, costume, props and sets. I was a props girl, because acting in front of an audience is a lot more intimidating than making a YouTube video. Anyway, props are all about creativity and having an eye for finding the perfect prop for a show. It's honestly a lot more work than you think it is.
For starters, we had a few serious closets—yeah, it is a big world in the theater life! Closet A is the "what the hell" closet. If you were to open it, your first words would actually be "What the hell?" Then you have the beautiful Props Closet, which is the real hangout; it's filled with just about anything and everything that our theater program has performed.
My "proppie" family means the absolute most to me. I want to say through the many ups and the plenty of downs that they would be my number one. So, thank you for bringing the beauty of theater and what it entails. It will always be a part of me. It gave me a sense of hiding myself from the real world, but allowing myself to act the way I want to act even though I was set behind the stage. I will never forget hiding in the witch's castle for Oz (and having barely any air to breathe), the crazy food runs and the fire drills. You young ones have it easy!
And remember: "Once a theater geek, always a theater geek."
PS: Please don't try to find me on YouTube. But I bet you're going to do it anyway. Good luck!
