We get it, college is the most overwhelmed you’ve felt so far in your entire life. Drowning in the midterms, research papers, and parties, it can be difficult to even find a free moment to eat. But when you do get that free moment, call your mom. After all, she birthed you, breastfed you, and then raised you to become who you are, so you kind of owe her big time. A simple phone call in the midst of your busy day could make your mom the happiest person in the world. Yes, it would definitely be easier and quicker to just shoot her a text but let’s be realistic; your mom probably doesn’t know how to text anyway.
After making so many new college friends, you might forget who your first friend really was. It can be easy to take your mother for granted because you know her unconditional love will always be there, but she’s been there for you through the ups and downs, and deserves a simple phone call. Your mother is arguably the only person who will willingly listen to you complain about your life in excruciating detail; who’s in any position to pass that up? At times when you feel you are lacking a reliable friend in your life who will undoubtedly always have your best interest at heart, your mother will be there for you and she’s only a phone call away. After all, we all need some brutal honesty sometimes, and your mom is one of the rare friends you have who will tell you that you shouldn’t wear that outfit, or that you desperately need a haircut.
Sometimes, that woman who raised you needs a little reassurance that she did her job right. The fact that a phone call from you could make someone’s day should automatically make you feel really special. It’s understandable that life can get extremely hectic sometimes, but you’re clearly not that busy if you’re reading this. So pick up that phone, try to avoid the natural tendency of clicking on Instagram, and give your mom a call.
