Everyone knows that social media has become the ultimate place to share not only memories, but your mouthwatering food. And I am sure we have all seen our friend post one (or many) of BuzzFeed's Tasty videos where they show you how to make mouthwatering food in just about a minute. And as a self-declared foodie, I have saved so many of these posts on Facebook thinking, "I could totally make this!" But as someone who has way more experience eating food rather than making it, I decided to test these videos myself to see if they are actually as easy (and tasty!) as they look.
Picking our meal.
With the help of my friend Natalie, we scoured Tasty's Facebook page to find something of our liking that didn't look too difficult. We wanted shrimp, but the first video we saw required a grill (not happening) which we had no experience with. And although we were going to the store, we wanted to have most of the ingredients already. We settled on One-Pot Lemon Garlic Shrimp Pasta and Cookies and Cream Puffs because they looked like things we couldn't screw up and also super delicious.
Cooking the food.
The ingredients were all pretty easy to get and we were fortunate enough to even have the shrimp on hand! But since there is such a wide variety of videos online, it is pretty easy to find one that will use the ingredients you already have.
Here's our comparison when making the food.

We were very impressed of how our gourmet food came out! For non-cooks we weren't too bad at making this!
Baking dessert.
We were so excited about our Oreo Cream Puffs that we were willing to make a trip to the store and grab what we needed. This looked like a much more difficult recipe than the dinner but too good to pass up.
Here's the side by side.

So, so tasty!
Overall takeaway and tips!
Overall, the food was pretty much as tasty as it looked in the videos. And although our recreations may have not looked as photogenic they were in the videos, they were not too far off. We only had minor complaints about the experience:
Even though the pasta was advertised with lemon in the title, it was not really flavored by lemon.
The cream for the cream puffs was thicker than pictured.
Some of the measurements were hard to estimate the way the were listed in the videos.
And some of the instructions that were not listed and only shown in the video were hard to understand (like that the cream would thicken just by the heat, etc.)
But we had such an amazing time making and eating the food! I later found out you can also get most of the recipes online in written form which is way more helpful and I highly suggest it. I also wouldn't say this is necessarily beginner friendly cooking, but we were able to complete them pretty accurately. All in all, I would have to say that my experience with BuzzFeed's Tasty was delicious, and I hope to do it again soon.
