A lot of us really do love giving back, but in college, when we’re balancing student organizations, school, and our personal lives, it can be pretty hard to add in regular volunteer hours. But, there’s another way to feel like you’re making a difference, and shop while you’re doing it. There are companies out there that can make us feel pretty great about our purchases. I mean, who doesn’t love buying a pair of shoes, and giving one to someone in need? Sometimes we have to splurge to afford them, but it’s also a pretty great feeling knowing that you didn’t just buy a new pair of shoes or a new beanie, you’re also helping others in the process.
So for those of you who are really into this idea, I complied a little list of a few pretty great companies out there!
Toms

Twice As Warm
This one is a new one to me. But they started in 2010, and for every item purchased they donate a clothing item to someone in need. In their first year, they donated 210 winter hats to those who needed them. And even better, everything is made in the United States!
Ivory Ella
Not only are they cute shirts, Ivory Ella also gives back. They donate 10 percent of their net profits to Savetheelephants.org.
Yoobi
First off, I’m a huge fan of cute office supplies, and while these ones might be a little more expensive they’re totally worth it. And in reality, the prices aren’t too bad. And, what’s great about them is they donate items to classrooms in need for every item you buy. Also, I don’t know about you, but I always love school when I have cute school supplies, so these are perfect!
Makai Clothing Co
Basically, Makai Clothing Co, is just like Ivory Ella, but for turtles. And, who doesn’t love turtles? They donate 10 percent of their net profit to seeturtles.org.
Love Your Melon
Love Your Melon was founded in 2012 by two college students, who wanted to make a difference in the lives of children with cancer. For every hat you buy, you give one too!
Alex & Ani
Money is donated by all CHARITY BY DESIGN purchases to non-profits who are doing great things for the world! So a cute bracelet can equal making a difference.
These are just a few of the many companies who are doing some pretty great, and all around wonderful, things for the world. So for those of you who love shopping, and want to make a difference, try these great companies. Or, if you’re just someone who loves giving back, but doesn’t have room in their schedule for a huge time commitment, look into these companies. You might not be volunteering, but at least you can feel like you’re doing a little bit of good!
