The Official Butter Guide

A go-to guide for all your butter needs.

The Official Butter Guide

You cook with it. It saves those dry waffles from being wasted. You may even slap it on your face every once in a while. Here's your guide for all of the butters.

1. Good ole fashion butter.

Use it on popcorn or if you like that classic lightly salty taste on food. It melts really well and can brown anything in your pan. Land O Lakes has a lot of different flavors of butter, so check that out if you want to spice up your cooking. Watch out though because too much of a good thing can be dangerous and who wants "death by butter" written in their obituary?

2. Dairy-free margarine.

Butter for those who cannot have dairy. It is becoming less popular, though, because it tends to be really over processed and that color is definitely not natural. I can't believe it's not butter.

2. Peanut butter.

Great on sandwiches, cookies, fruits, spoons. Also good for when your little brother jams his chewed gum into your hair. Has good amounts of protein and potassium (Yay!) and a lot of other things that you can go look up yourself.

3. Almond butter.

More fiber, vitamin E, and monounsaturated fats, but sometimes grainier and not reminiscent of that PB&J taste.

4. Cashew butter.

Less sugar than almond and peanut butter, but less protein. Also known to have a richer, creamier taste.

5. Soy nut butter.

Love nut butters but not the emergency room? This is for all of you who are allergic to nuts! (Also, go to Prentiss dining hall and get some because it's bomb.)

5. Coconut butter.

Meat of the coconut in pureed form, usually without additives but with tons of natural lauric acid, healthy fats and protein. Spread it, bake with it, eat it like Nutella (or with Nutella), use it on your face as a mask or in your hair when straightening for extra shine. Go crazy.

6. Cocoa butter.

The part of chocolate that allows it to melt in your mouth yet but isn't sweet, cocoa butter has been wrung out by many health food sites and is warned against. It contains questionable fatty acids whose effects are sometimes neutral, sometimes good, and sometimes bad. However, it is amazing for your skin. It prevents dryness, heals chapped lips, soothes rashes and is even said to be able to strengthen and add volume to hair.

7. Shea butter.

A main ingredient in many lotions, skin care products and lip balm, shea butter is known far and wide for its healing properties and moisturization capabilities. However, many don't know that shea is also eaten around the world and is used in place of many oils. It's very high in antioxidants and fatty acids, though it is not known to be particularly tasty.

8. Ghee.

Often used in Indian cuisine, ghee is a clarified butter from buffalo or cows, and is high in antioxidants and vitamins. Plus it is reported that many who are lactose intolerant have no problems with ghee because the milk solids and impurities are removed before it is sold. Also Kourtney Kardashian drinks a little bit of it every morning, so you should too.

9. Butter (2011).

Jennifer Garner is a master at carving butter. Enough said.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
