Procrastination is a bad habit many people develop. I can honestly say I am one of them. It is an extremely hard to break the habit, but once you do, your life will be changed. Some people choose to put off work because they get things done better under pressure. Others choose procrastination, simply because they do not want to face the work they need to do. Not going to lie - it’s a habit I still haven’t fully broken. However, there are times I do get my assignments done as soon as they’re assigned and I feel amazing afterwards.
Getting your work done early is crucial, especially in college. The last thing you want is to fall behind. During your college years, you are forced to make decisions on your own. No one is forcing you and telling you to do your homework except yourself. You can be your own worst enemy by telling yourself “I’ll just do it later.” Of course, that idea sounds amazing in the moment, but once it comes down to crunch time you hate yourself. You begin to panic, saying you’ll never wait until the last minute ever again. You learn to laugh at yourself when you realize that you told yourself the same line ten times after.
I grew up with my grandma constantly grinding me with the saying “always keep built in time.” She always lectured my cousins and me about how you always need to give yourself enough time just in case something unexpected happens. So if it takes you 10 minutes to get to work, leave 20 minutes beforehand. If your essay is due in two weeks, get it done sometime during the first week. You never know what can happen and you may not have as much time as you think you do. In conclusion, do not wait until the last second to get your stuff done. Avoiding procrastination will take a huge weight off of your shoulders.
