Just let that sink in for a second…

The people that inhabit this planet are becoming increasingly corrupt, ignorant, hateful, and unforgiving. If you turn on any news channel this week you'll see the climbing death toll of a terrorist attack in Brussels, Belgium. It's sad that not only are we exposed to yet another violent act of idiocy, but that we have become so desensitized as well.

This world needs prayers, civility, and a common sense of morality. We can all coexist regardless of each other's’ beliefs, ideals, religion, race, or anything else that sets us “apart.” We are truly all one species, and we often seem to forget that. We forget that somewhere on the other side of the world is another person similar to you, and we take that for granted. Some people are theoretically diverse, and entitled to their own opinion on that matter. But we all are born with basic human rights. Not constitutional rights, but human rights. No one can take that away from you. Who is to say that your life is any less valuable than another’s? Who's to take another human’s life? No one.

Not just today and this week, but every single day you can change the channel from news station to news station and see hardly any good. The screen is littered with violence, catastrophic events, accidents, murder, and hate.

How many major terrorist attacks in the past couple of years or so can you name? Quite a few. And yes, it stirs up a mix of emotions for most of us, but when we aren't directly affected, we forget about it. When Paris was so devastatingly attacked, I was at school, waiting for my friends to wake up and Coke home before the night, just pondering for hours about the lives lost, and the cruel place this world is in. But after a couple months I forgot too. Everyone did. We care in the moment, but we don't allow it to become imprinted into our mindsets, to change us in a positive manner.

The problem is we truly do not care about others and the world. We work, have fun with our friends, and express love towards certain people. But we don't think about this planet, the future, and our lives as they affect others. We don't consider the repercussions of our actions, the little difference that we can make, and the large opportunities that we don't take to enact change.

I asked this kid I work with how he felt about the Brussels attacks. The first thing that came out of his mouth was, “I could care less.” I thought about losing my job over this. No even kidding. For those who personally know me, you know I am not argumentative. I like to resolve issues and oftentimes succumb my own side of the argument in order to compromise. I couldn't resist this time, I care too much about the bigger picture.

In my perspective, we need to work together as a human race towards larger goals. There is too much negativity between one another. “Politics is broken.” That's because there are broken people in politics ruining the system. We don't all work towards a commonality and it hurts everyone. People are wrapped up in, "if it doesn't affect me then whatever” and that's what hurts, no one f*****g cares.

I'm not even sure what I'm talking about any more, or what point I'm trying to make. It just pissed me off and makes me sad that people out there believe killing innocent lives like this is perfectly okay, and even good. And it pisses me off to almost an equal extent when people with the power to change it now, or revolutionize change for the future generationally, just don't even bother.

I would be remiss if I neglected to extend my prayers to the people of Brussels, not just to the injured and murdered, or to their families and loved ones, but to each and every citizen that takes it personally because Belgium is their country, and they truly care about it. Even though it may not seem it sometimes, the world is standing behind you for support, because we are all in fact one people, with real love for one another.

Terrorism will never win. Never defeat us. It's the hearts and minds of genuine people that make sure it loses, always.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
