An Open Letter To My Brother's Best Friends

I have seen a lot of articles written to little brothers, to best friends, and some to older brothers. But I have been hard pressed to find articles written to the best friends of brothers, and I think it's about time they get the recognition they deserve.

In typical little sister fashion, I used to just think my brother and his friends were weird. I followed the little sister stereotype over the years, and now I'm lucky enough to call my brothers best friends my own friends as well. More importantly, I have to thank them.

1. Thank you for being there when my brother couldn't be.

With a brother living 100s of miles away, there have been plenty of times where we each wished we were a little closer to the other so he could fulfill his duties as my older brother. But he can't always be here, so I'm incredibly thankful that I've got his best friends in my life. Thank you for being there when he can't be, whether it's to offer life advice, teach me about Pokémon, or just cheer me up.

2. Thank you for adopting me as your little sister.

I know when we were younger I was probably the annoying little sister that was just always there, that you didn't know how to interact with. I think I'm still the annoying little sister, but thank you for adopting me as your little sister. Knowing that we're basically family makes me feel better about going to you when I can't go to my brother.

3. Thank you for making me laugh, always.

It is a proven fact that I can go to you whenever I'm feeling down because things don't stay serious for too long. Thank you for always making me laugh and feel better. Sometimes, you do a better job at it than my own brother.

4. Thank you for being amazing friends to my brother.

I have always admired your friendship, because no matter how far apart you guys are or how long you go without seeing each other, you have always stayed best friends. You guys can joke about everything! I'm sure sometimes you can be serious, and I know you will always be there for each other. Whether it's standing by each others sides at weddings, or kicking butt when playing Xbox, thank you for being amazing friends to my brother.

I could go on for days about how amazing my brother's best friends are. I could go on about how much they've taught me, how protective they can be, and just how much they mean to me, but I think a "thank you" truly covers it all.

Thank you, boys, for everything.

Love,

Your (best friend's) little sister

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
