PREFACE: This weekend was not extraordinary by any means. From the outside, it could have easily been seen as just another weekend full of shenanigans, good friends, and food with no nutritional value. But, because you are supposed to learn something new everyday, one may ask, what was it that I learned this weekend? Many more things than you may realize, I would answer. It has been an enlightening weekend, indeed.
I learned…people just want to be friends: This is a direct shout out to the guy in my philosophy class that I hardly know but was willing to play what are the odds with me. I think it’s a budding friendship and that I appreciate the friendly game. Seriously though, Wake Forest is full of people that just want to get to know you. That’s kind of fun, right?
I learned…The Tri Delta lounge is a pretty homey place to sleep: It’s kind of like when you fall asleep watching Netflix on your couch in the summer just kind of paying attention to the episode, but also kind of using it for the background noise as you drift in and out. Grab a blanket and a laptop, and have a ball. 10/10 would recommend.
I learned…that guys aren’t the most tactful of people sometimes: This isn’t to say that girls are always tactful…but what are you going to do?
I learned…listening is important: When people say that you have two ears and one mouth - they mean that. It’s always important to make sure that you listen before you speak.
I learned…Chick Fil A can solve most problems: There’s just something about it - try it sometime - it can work miracles.
I learned…that you should always get up and brush yourself off: Whether it's literally picking yourself up after you fall over those tricky wires that run the speakers at the darty, or not-so-literally, it's important. You have to really just power through even though it can hurt. You will be a stronger person for it. I’ve never been more impressed with my friends’ abilities to pick themselves up than this weekend. I saw one friend skid across the backyard of a darty after tripping over the wires mentioned above. She popped right up and carried on. Thanks for reminding me that it’s all about getting back up.
I learned…people want to help you out: This one catches me off-guard sometimes. But, people are so willing to help out someone in need and even people who aren’t in need. I find myself greatly underestimating the capacity of total strangers to care about me, and I am always pleasantly surprised to realize that it’s actually quite a lot.
Thank you to this school for showing me that and to all those people who have been such random acts of kindness this weekend.
Finally…
I learned…there’s nothing quite like a great weekend with great people eating horrible food.
Thanks to my friends for the endless shenanigans.
