Breaking Through The Wall Of Writer's Block

There is a barrier you need to break.

Writer's block can be one of the most frustrating things you may encounter as a writer or a student. It's a feeling of being uninspired, closed off and barricaded from the end product.

When nothing is quite the right fit for that article, speech or essay you need to write, you can feel hindered and completely stumped. But there is a way around it!

First of all, just talk it out.

The first step to understanding that you can't think of a topic is to talk about it with your roommate, friend, family member - whoever is around! Not only can they help you think of new topics to write about, but they can also help you understand where the writer's block is coming from. Is it the fact that you're not passionate about the topic/task? Is it the fact that you don't understand the overall aim? Specifying the origin of the writer's block will help you immensely!

Second of all, explore and pinpoint your specific topic that you either need to write about, or have chosen to write about.

Whether you're in love with the topic or not, it definitely helps to narrow down what exactly you will be writing about.

Finally, draft draft draft!

Speaking from a recent writer's block I had for a speech, I just had to write out one of my possible topics and see where it led me. I ended up doing that three times and going with my second topic as a style and topical choice for the assignment at hand. This process also works if you have too many topics to choose from and need to select the best one!

Easiest way to clear your head of writer's block? Talk about it, narrow your topics down and just try and write it. It may take you more than an hour or a day to find the perfect topic (don't do your assignment on the last possible day!) but drafts are a glorious thing!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
