Whether we are actively helping a cause or not, we all know that in our country, state and city there are people who are going to bed hungry, sleeping on the streets, or struggling with diseases. But one thing most people aren't aware of is the prevalence of modern day slavery.
For those who don't know, modern day slavery is a crime of human trafficking, which is the illegal trade of humans for sexual exploitation or forced labor—all against their will. Despite the popularity of the movie, Taken, that is centered around this topic, this major crime still doesn't get the recognition it needs to sufficiently help those who are victims find freedom from the shackles that are imprisoning them and get them back on their feet. What most people don't know is that there are 27 million victims of sex trafficking worldwide, and every 30 seconds another person falls victim to the dehumanizing crime.
Fortunately, there is a group of students in Georgia who have made it their goal to spread awareness and raise funds for charities who are actively fighting human trafficking. Starting in 2012, these students have worked hard to organize an annual benefit concert that has been successful in raising generous funds for the fight against modern slavery. They have appeared on Fox 5 and 11 Alive News for their efforts, and have been making great strides in their goal to raise awareness.
