What makes an individual beautiful? According to today's society, it seems to be a lack of individuality. In order to be beautiful, a person must have a Kylie Jenner lip kit, a full contoured face and enough money to jet set around the world. Every day, girls around the world devalue themselves because they wish they looked like Kylie Jenner or had as much fame as Selena Gomez. Girls everywhere treat these shallow and facile celebrities, who truly give nothing back to our society, like they are gods or goddesses. And, when girls compare themselves to the images of these celebrities, it makes them feel like their lives are meager or meaningless in comparison.
Celebrity worship makes me question what kind of a society we exist in these days. Why do we live in a society that convinces girls everywhere that they should look more like fake celebrities rather than their own beautiful selves? This is a society that makes fun of girls who don’t spend an hour contouring their faces each morning and burn their hair into perfect curls. A society where instead of posting photos of girls doing what they love, girls everywhere are posting photos of celebrities and saying how much they wish they were them.
Come on people.
We are all so much stronger than that.
If you live your life trying to be someone else, what kind of life are you really living? We’re all victims of it - we see a photo of someone going somewhere cool and think “damn, I wish I was them." But this isn't the big picture. People need to remember that we only see a tiny snapshot of what celebrities' lives really look like. You don't see them first thing in the morning, you don't know what keeps them up at night and surely, you don't know the troubles that they go through. They are just people. No matter how cool they are on social media, on TV or on the cover of a magazine, they are just as human as you are. Even they had an awkward middle school stage! It doesn't matter how many likes they have on a photo; none of these celebrities have picture perfect lives.
So what’s stopping you from breaking through the barriers of celebrity worship and being happy with your own life?
Seriously.
Think about it: there is nothing that ties you to a person that you have never met, that adds nothing to your life and honestly only makes you feel bad about yourself. Would you want your little sister, daughter or friend to think like that? Probably not. Why don't we treat ourselves like we would treat others? Why do we engage in a cycle of self-hate by comparing ourselves to other people?
Say it with me girls - YOU ARE NOT A KARDASHIAN. YOU ARE NOT TAYLOR SWIFT, MILEY CYRUS OR HALSEY. YOU ARE NOBODY BUT YOURSELF - AND THAT IS AMAZING, BEAUTIFUL, UNIQUE AND STRONG.
