"When people say you're in a boyband, I'm like, 'Yeah, yeah I am, but I'm in a cool boyband, so I'm like whatevs." Hmph, cool one Zayn.
Let's be real, everyone has been waiting since the dreaded day that will go down in history (March 25, 2015) to hear Zayn's new music. Even my grandmother was asking about it a few days ago. Since that date, fans have been trying to decide whose side they are on - stay devoted to the boys, or move on to a more grown-up sound? The initial reaction was to not support Zayn, after all he did ruin the whole "On The Road Again Tour," and left us without the pure joy of listening to his high notes in "You and I." But as Zayn stepped out and became his own individual, more and more people were OK with the idea of him leaving. The arrival of a new song was announced three days before it dropped, and if that wasn't enough to give teenage girls a heart attack, he just randomly announced that the music video was supposed to drop the same day. OK Zayn, how am I supposed to close my eyes and enjoy the rollercoaster that is life when you throw all these curveballs at me? For the past couple days, I have received texts from people I forgot even existed, family members, and good friends who constantly ask what I think of the new song. And my answer? I love it.
Even though the main reason why he supposedly left the band was because pop music wasn't really his thing, there is still a pop music vibe that follows the song. That aside, it's such a tune, and it makes you want to roll your body and sway your hips for three minutes and twenty-four seconds. You could literally put it on replay for hours and never once get bored of it. The style and beat of the music mimics his style, refined black and white with his artistic side on full display.
If the song isn't enough, the music video is so risqué, it's hard to believe he started off in a boyband with a fanbase starting as early as tween girls. It features his "really good friend" Gigi Hadid, as they make out almost 75 percent of the time while the other 25 percent of the video is supposed to be artistic as they distort head shots of Zayn Gigi, and another girl that is barely featured. What I still don't get is why do they cry paint? Why are their tears black and red and not water, like regular people?
His album drops (grab your tissues) on March 25. Coincidence? I think not. But if the rest of the album follows the same sound as "Pillow talk," his solo career is going to be a massive success, and I will support him the entire way.
