It's that time of the year again where finals week is upon college students. Students will be living at the library and studying until sunrise to make an A on their final exams.
Students at the University of Central Florida are preparing for their finals by studying ahead of time, whether they are undergraduate or graduate students. Each student at UCF has his or her own unique way of studying that helps them succeed on their final exams.
Most college students, whether they are younger or older has their own study technique that helps them prepare for their final exams.
Elena Hernandez, a 25-year-old junior at the University of Central Florida said she has her own way of studying that allows her to succeed on her exams. “I like reviewing notes, either I make note cards or highlight important facts in my books,” she said.
Madhurikka Ravichandran, a sophomore at the University of Central Florida has a similar way of studying.
She said, “I live at the library, and I write everything down taking notes receptively.”
Another student, Sasha Perez, a first-year graduate student at the University of Central Florida has a different way of studying for final exams.
“I like to look at power points and then condense everything to one study guide,” she said.
Her technique doesn't stop there though, Perez said, “I walk around with my study guide and talk to myself, I call it disorder discourse because I am having a discourse with myself.”
Not only do students study for exams but they also reach out to learn their material.
Hernandez uses her study techniques but she also said, “I go to tutoring sometimes if I really can't understand the material.”
Students around UCF like to use their study techniques ahead of time to prepare for their final exams.
Hernandez said “I have to study ahead of time probably two weeks prior to the exam.”
“I hate cramming, that's why i don't like to study with groups it just doesn't work and I rather study by myself,” she said.
Ravichandran, a psychology student said “I like to study ahead, usually three days before the exam.”
While some students like to study and prepare ahead of time, other students don't prepare ahead of time.
“I would love to study ahead of time but there's so many wonderful things to do in life and then you get invited to an event or something else comes up and you end up forgetting,” a Speech language therapy student, Sasha Perez said.
