Today makeup is a pretty hot topic to the average girl, given how many makeup tutorials there are on Youtube. But now boys are becoming more prominent within the makeup industry, as well. About a decade ago, the average person would not see a boy in makeup unless they were a drag queen, or something along those lines. Now, you could say it is becoming a bit more socially acceptable. Either that, or the gender roll for makeup is just slowly becoming less applicable in today's society.
There are prominent personalities such as Jeffree Star, who started his career in the music industry but branched out to the makeup industry. He now has one of the top-selling liquid lipsticks in the United States for how amazing his formula is. Then there are male makeup artist that are Youtubers, like Manny Mua and Patrick Star. Manny just did a collaboration with MakeupGeek Cosmetics and Ofra Cosmetics.
Male's are creating a more dominate presence for themselves in the makeup industry, based on their Instagram accounts alone. Some boys even start off as young as 16 years old, like this one makeup artist @jcharlesbeauty on Instagram. He's 16 years old and just recently received 70,000 likes on one of his Instagram makeup posts. Personally, I started playing around with makeup around 16 or 17, only because I needed to hide my zits. However, some of these boys in makeup are doing amazing work at such young ages.
