Dear Best Friend,
If I had a dollar for every time I heard the phrases, "Are you two dating?" or "When will you two ever get together?" I could probably pay for all of our countless food trips.
Do you actually know how much I love you? I mean, I know I say it at random times and I give you random hugs from time to time, but do you actually understand the degree to which I love you? Do you really know and understand everything that you've done for me? Do you know what my life would be without you? Because honestly, I don't even know and I don't want to find out.
Sometimes I wonder how I got so lucky to get a person like you to stick by my side for 5 years. We don't meet people by accident. They are meant to cross our paths for a reason. I can't even begin to express how important you are to me. You walked into my life when I was in a very dark time, and showed me how to love myself again.
You know me like no one else does, in ways that no one else does, and the number of times you have been there for me when I needed you is immeasurable. You love me for who I am, no matter how quirky or goofy I can be. You've spent hours upon hours convincing me of my worth, of my beauty, and of my talent. And it breaks me that you forget your own.
I could never possibly put into words all of the things I want to say to you because the list is endless. I could fill a book full of all the things I want to thank you for, but here are just a few.
1. Thank you for always being so protective of me and telling me how it is. You are always honest with me. No matter the situation, you will always give me your honest opinion. Whether it's trying on clothes or just talking to you in general, I can always count on you to tell me exactly how you feel. You never hold back, and even though sometimes this upsets me a little, at the end of the day I am grateful for it.
2. Thank you for warning me about any douchebag guy that you do not trust.
3. Thank you for making me laugh so hard I couldn't breathe. I swear we laugh the hardest when we are together. I think one of my favorite things in life is laughing with someone and realizing halfway through how much I enjoy them and appreciate their existence. You know exactly what it takes to make me laugh, and typically within ten minutes of being together, we are both laughing so hard we're crying. No one else makes me laugh harder than you do, and I am thankful that you are able to always cheer me up, no matter the situation.
4. Thank you for carrying my bags and purse for hours while I walk aimlessly around the mall.
5. Thank you for taking hundreds of pictures with me. I love pictures. They are like little memories that I never want to forget. Making memories with you is my favorite thing in the world.
6. Thank you for being patient with me. I know how stubborn and sassy I am, but somehow you know how to handle it. You know when to give me distance, and I appreciate that about you. We don't always agree; we annoy each other to no end.
8. Thank you for introducing me to new TV shows, songs, and Broadway musicals. I can't imagine going through life without blasting Heathers The Musical or gushing over Dylan O'Brien as Stiles Stilinski in the TV show, Teen Wolf.
9. Thank you for fangirling over puppies and musicals with me.
10. Thank you for always encouraging me with my writing and constantly giving me ideas and prompts to write about.
11. Thank you for being my best friend. I am forever grateful for our night walks, our Skyline dates, our trips to see Broadway musicals, and our endless adventures we've had in our 5 years of friendship. From playing my father in Music Man to playing my boyfriend in From Little Things, I am forever grateful that being involved in theatre brought us together.
You will do great things someday because you are the most talented and creative person that I know. You are a hard worker and I can’t wait to watch you follow and achieve your dreams.
There is no one else I would ever want to walk through life with, and I am beyond glad I was given you. Your friendship is the kind that I never want to get rid of. I want you by my side through every stage of my life, and I want to be right there for you in your life too. You are the best person I could ever ask for as my friend. So, thank you for the years of friendship, and here's to many many more.
