How To Be A Boss B*tch
Margaret, Kaitlyn, Asena, and I on our couch before DOME last week

Two weeks ago, I started my junior year of college. So far, so good; classes are going well, and I love all three of my roommates. Somehow, we were asked to co-host one of our Residential College’s annual *back to school* type parties, called DOME. I’m not sure who really thought it was a good idea to let us host a party traditionally held on the second Wednesday night of classes, but we did it, and it went surprisingly well. One of the highlights for me was getting dressed up with my suitemates (dress code was all-black semi-formal), and watching them totally crush it in their own respective ways all night long, being social and looking fabulous.

In honor of them, and in honor of everyone who came out Wednesday night to celebrate with us in their most badass attire, here are four different ways to be/look like a Boss Ass Bitch, as told by myself and my roommates, the four ladies of Suite 44Queen.

Margaret: Never miss a meeting by planning your life to perfection with your handy dandy Google Calendar. Don’t just join organizations on a whim; pick a few you really care about, and work your way up to leading them. Have a hard major, but take joy in the late nights and high demands by working with your friends (and ordering lots of pizza). Straighten your hair, wear red lipstick, elevate your height by adding heels to your already tall 5' 11" frame, and make no apologies for how good your legs look in that sparkly dress. #Boss

Marley: Ease into every day with leisurely mornings and high quality breakfast foods. Put the people in your life first. Look for ways to be creative, be it making weird sculptures or making a quote wall with your roommates for your common room. Get shit done, but be nice about it. Accept your limitations in life and in fashion, and make the facts that, one, you’re a perfectionist, and two, you can’t walk in heels more than three inches tall, work for you instead of against you. Let your hair down, and don’t worry about not looking like everyone else.

Kaitlyn: Early to bed and early to rise makes a (wo)man a kickass athlete. Check in on your friends regularly. Take no shit. Make decorative lists on lists on lists of things you need to do in an effort to get, and keep, your life together. Appreciate a good bottle of wine, and always be willing to share. Wear swimsuits, workout clothes, and fancy dresses with the same level of fierceness. Embrace your #RBF. Wear your sass on your sleeve, and always let people know where they stand with you.

Asena: Travel, but don’t forget where home is. Read anything and everything you can get your hands on (hello, psychology and English double major). Take time for yourself, whether it’s relaxing with a face mask and other beauty products or going shopping at Plato’s Closet and Target. Take immense joy in #basicbitch things like sunset photos and Starbucks and the color pink, and make no apologies for it. Rock your naturally curly hair in a multitude of ways, and have a blast playing with makeup. Know what looks good on your body and don’t be afraid to accentuate your *assets.*

Margs, Kaitlyn, and Asena are three of my favorite people. They’re some of the smartest, most genuine people I know. They’re their own people, and (as much as anyone can be) are confident in who they are. They have so much to offer this world, and I’m so lucky to live with them. They are Boss Ass Bitches in different ways, and inspire me to be and do better. Surrounding myself with people I genuinely enjoy has made the biggest difference in who I am and how I feel — 10/10 would recommend trying it yourself. You’ll learn a lot about other people, and about yourself, in the process.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
