Boredom & Sadness... Is There A Correlation?

Is there a correlation between boredom and sadness? The short answer would be a flat out yes but I think we all know it's not that simple - especially in today's age. When I say "today's age" I'm talking about the generations that don't know what to do without their phones (me included). Teens and young adults rely heavily on their phones not only for convenience but also entertainment... So what do we do again when we have scrolled past the same 20 pictures on Instagram???

Most people don't know what to do, thus also including myself again. I have had my fair share of days that I sat around with no plans and ended up getting very upset. Not only was I upset that I didn't have plans while everyone else did, I was also upset with myself for not getting my head into the game. Like I said, I've had my fair share of boring, sad day and while I may not be an expert, I have personally learned a lot from myself from experiencing this problem a few times. Start with GETTING OFF YOUR PHONE.

I know you would think that scrolling through social media will relieve your boredom but honestly it's just going to cause you to be more upset. Why put yourself in the position to see all of your friends and friends of friends out having a blast while you're in your bed for the 5th hour watching Netflix. Save yourself the comparing and find something else to read through! Try finally reading that book you always said you were going to get around to and never actually did... yeah that one!!! Look into articles or blogs on the internet that you would be interested in (like the odyssey (*wink wink*). Its okay to watch TV when your bored too just don't sit there ALL day because you know you will be like "omg i'm such a bum" you know?

You could always work on some school work, I mean I know that sounds awful but at least you could get ahead of the game! I personally like to try and create things when I find myself becoming bored and sad. For one it gives you something to do and two you can have a sense of purpose. Paint, draw, write, make music, whatever but just do something, and specifically something that you genuinely enjoy doing and that makes you happy. When you cant find the fun, make the fun. As corny as it sounds you'll be glad that you did some things you enjoyed. Staying busy will keep you entertained and distracted. When you're not doing anything but laying in bed scrolling through everyone else social medias while you sit with your own thoughts... yeah not a good time. So do something for yourself when your bored. You don't always have to hangout with friends and constantly do stuff, have fun with yourself. Get to know you.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register.
