Many of us grew up as a bookworms. Throughout our childhood, we were looked over for the attention seeker who could not stop talking about everything they did. As we got older, this personality became favored even more. People want us to be outgoing, a speaker and do introverted tasks on the side at the same time. It is an unrealistic expectation on an individual. We are living in a world where people keep pushing people to be someone else when we are all supposed to be different. Our differences are complimentary to the person who can't sit down. However, more and more people are fooled into believing that extroverted traits should mask an individual's personality. Many of us in society may be looked over, but I believe that the perks of being a book worm outweigh the negative stigma of being introverted.
Simply reading books allows us to view other people's perspectives and the narratives of how their problems surfaced and were resolved. There are individuals that never stop to think why people are different and are judgmental. Bookworms are more likely to take an analytical perspective. There are times where I feel an emotional tie to an individual, even though I don't personally know them. In fiction and non-fiction writing, you will see characters that reflect the personalities you observe in real life.
Reading books can help to relieve stress. Being able to escape from the stress of the real world, while it may seem immature to someone who doesn't read, helps us reflect. To this day, I may think back to a favorite childhood character, and think about the positive message that the author was trying to convey about not giving up. It helps to know you are not alone. Simply reading books allows brain activity to be more active than it is while watching television. Being observant and analytical outweighs the pressure of society to be more of a party animal. Being a bookworm allows me to be an individual who thinks before they leap. Some of the many perks of being a book worm are to be healthy, resilient, observant, empathetic and thoughtful. These are attributes that I believe shouldn't be looked over.
