For many people, grabbing a new book is something they do every so often, and when it comes time to make this adventure, they head straight into Barnes and Noble for a quick two-second shopping experience.
But for us readers, we have a favorite local bookshop, and browsing for a book could take up to hours... there's just too much to choose from and everything about the ambiance feels like a warm blanket on a cold winter's night. With all that being said, here is the thought process of a reader in a bookstore:
1. Ahh, I see the light!
Walking up to the front door of a bookstore is a blissful feeling. All I can think about are the opportunities that lie inside.
2. Where do I even begin?
Do I start with the literary fiction or ease into the experience with a good self-help section browsing? Should I start at the back and work towards the register or start right at the front?
3. What do you mean you've never been here before?
Stumbling into people in a bookstore can always be fun; sometimes they offer really great book recommendations or some cool information about an author you both read, but every so often you run into a poor soul who says that this is the first time they've ever been in this shop which is only like your favorite place in the entire world. You want to feel offended but at least they are now experiencing this perfection.
4. Oh, this has got to be good.
When you're looking for a new novel, you always have to read the summary to get a good idea on the storyline because you obviously can't judge a book by its cover... *sense slight sarcasm* *guilty as charged.* And when you read something really good, you just want to flip to the first page and dive right in.
5. This book seems a little cheesy... well it can be a guilty pleasure.
No one look at me, I swear I have a good sense of judgment! It's just this book looks really good! I know this love story has been done before in a million other novels but it really might be different this time! Don't judge me!
6. Yes, I really need all of these.
Yeah, I definitely need these books to add to my already disgusting amount building on my shelves...
Reading is good for the brain, it will keep me smart...
I deserve to spend money on this hobby, it's good for me...
...At least I'm not buying drugs.
7. Do I have enough money to buy these 6 books?
Well if I skip out on my afternoon coffees for the next 2 weeks and miss a few movies, I could definitely swing this.
8. I definitely am dying a little inside from excitement and how bad this is going to hurt my bank account.
I really hope this check out lady isn't judging me hard as I'm just hoping my card won't reject this purchase.
9. Please shut up, I'm trying to read here.
There's no worse feeling than when you make your purchase and head to the nice little section of couches and lounge chairs in the back of the shop to begin reading and your fellow customers do not understand the concept of being quiet. You really just want to walk up to them and explain to them how indecent they are acting.
10. I regret nothing.
It is beyond exciting to run straight home and spend the next four hours in my room... and there's nothing you can do to stop me.
