For all those book-lovers that are also Netflix-lovers, here's some Netflix shows you might not have known are books! Instead of sitting back and watching TV, crack open a book for some good old-fashioned entertainment.
1. "Hemlock Grove."

2. "13 Reasons Why."
This controversial Netflix show was first a book, Thirteen Reasons Why, by Jay Asher. The book was published all the way back in 2007, and made the New York Times Best Seller's list. Whether you support the show or not, you can give the book a shot. The show was a Netflix hit, and the second season for '13 Reasons Why' is currently filming!
3. "The Time In Between."
I picked this Internationally best selling book up at a used bookstore a few weeks ago, and lo and behold, as I was scrolling through Netflix I saw it pop up. It’s from a Spanish writer, and the show’s original language is in Spanish, so if you want to brush up on your Spanish 1, I highly recommend. You can watch with subtitles or with English voice-over. This show tells the story of a dressmaker from Madrid who is living through the World War era. She adventures to Morrocco with a lover, before being abandoned penniless and forced to make a living as a dressmaker in Morrocco. Through her English best friend, she is recruited to be a spy for the British, working as a dressmaker in Morrocco for the elite wives of German Nazis and other important figures. This book is a tale of romance, history, and adventure – I loved it!
4. "Girlboss."
This show was adapted from from Sophia Amoruso's autobiography, #Girlboss. The book tells the story of how Sophia started her own business, through many trials and tribulations. It shows the mid-20s life crisis of Sophia that turned her into a successful businesswoman. Unfortunately, the Netflix show only has one season and has not been renewed for another one.
5. "Orange Is The New Black."
You may already know that OINTB is based off of a true story, but Piper Kerman's book Orange Is the New Black: My Year in a Women's Prison might shed some light on what is fact or fiction in the series. It's a New York Times bestseller as well, so the book is bound to live up to your literary expectations. OINTB's fifth season was released in June, if you haven't seen it yet.
6. "Anne of Green Gables."
This one may be more of a “Book you didn’t know was a Netflix show,” as the Netflix show ‘Anne with an E’ just came out, but the books have been around for ages. Anne of Green Gables was released over a hundred years ago, in 1908, with many other books following in the series. Albeit labeled a children’s book series, no judgement if you want to go and read these books now! This Netflix show makes Anne's world come to life!
7. "A Series of Unfortunate Events."
Again, no judgement passed if you want to go back and reread your favorite series from your elementary school days. One (me) might argue that the books are undeniable better than the show…The first season of the Netflix show was release in January of 2017, the next season will be released in 2018.
