Now that it’s summer, you can finally relax! Grab some ice tea, kick back in the shade and take a break from the screen with one of these great books I personally love.
1. "American Psycho" by Bret Easton Ellis
If you’ve seen the movie, you definitely need to read the book. Patrick Bateman, a wealthy young businessman is on the verge of a breakdown. Through first person point of view, he describes gruesome and gory scenes, as well as a confusing roller coaster of emotions he is experiencing.
2. "MEG: A Novel of Deep Terror" by Steve Alten
This book is written for science fiction lovers. The Megalodon is a prehistoric massive shark thought to be extinct. Well all facts have been proven wrong when a deep-sea diver discovers the shark swimming in the depths of the ocean. Things take a turn for the worst when another megalodon emerges and terrorizes the surface waters.
3. "The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test" by Tom Wolfe
This book is an incredible experience. Tom Wolfe, an author living in the 60’s, recounts his firsthand adventures with Ken Kesey and his group of followers known as the Merry Pranksters. For those who don’t know, Ken Kesey was an author living in California, who took part in igniting the “acid movement.” This book is full of poetry and stories, from the first set of the Grateful Dead concert, to traveling cross-country in a bus.
4. "Summer Sisters" by Judy Blume
When’s the last time you heard this author’s name? It’s been a while since I’ve read some of her books…maybe the last time was 10 years ago? This book is a lot different than prepubescent issues. Written for young adults, it takes you on the adventures of a young quiet girl whose world has been rocked by a wild new best friend. Together, the girls experience life as each summer goes by.
