Boobs, Breasts, Tatas, Bodacious Bahama Mamas you name it. Breasts have been a part of our culture since the dawn of existence. Breasts deliver us from infancy and entice us in adulthood. But what do breasts really say about a female's age?
All of my life, I have had a fairly large chest. In grade school, I was one of the early bloomers. In seventh grade, I had guys looking at my chest instead of my eyes... It's been a long road, and now here I am twenty years old and at a comfortable Double D.
But all through my life, I have been told that I look older than I am. At 17, I was taken for 20, and was able to use the bread slicer at work. I always laughed it off and said that it was because of my "wise eyes" or that I "just acted more mature than my fellow classmates." In the end, I was truly kidding myself. It was because of my boobs.
I was being objectified by many people who just a assumed that a mature body calls for a mature age.
This, after all, is a two-way street for us females and small boobs come with the same age like scale. If they are "too" that woman is perceived to be younger. The term "little boy," is often used to describe these girls and women.
Breasts are a mark of "Womanhood", media gravitates towards the fact that by having larger boobs makes you a real woman.
This then gives girls today complexes not only with their size of breasts but also with the age they are, and want to be perceived as. Looking more mature, and desirable is the main trend today. Twelve-year-old girls use Instagram, Facebook and other social media that add pressure to the desire to look a certain way.
Breasts are a symbol of the ultimate stage in adulthood for a woman. The bigger they are the more womanly and/ or desirable you become. This has been a stigma for years.
Women who have smaller chests have to deal with this stigma of looking like a, "little boy," and Women with bustier breasts need to try their best not to encourage a slutty stigma.
Seriously I cannot wear a tank top without feeling like someone's eyes are already glued to the amount of cleavage bursting forth.
But let's just wait a second. Boobs only purpose, actual purpose is to feed an infant.... That is literally it. If boobs turn on the opposite sex now that is just a byproduct.
So, why is it that we have so many stigmas about our boobs?
Boobs are natural things that women have to feed their children, there is nothing to be ashamed of. There is nothing to be apprehensive about. If a guy looks at boobs, it really doesn't matter what your wearing, if you have large breasts you could be wearing a potato sack and he would still look. And for women with smaller breasts, you still have breasts! The size of them does not make a person more of a woman.
Quite frankly, I'm jealous. I would love to go running without having to wear three sports bras, so I won't get punched in the face with my own bodacious beauties.
Our breasts say nothing about who we are, they only determine how we are perceived, and that is out of our hands altogether.
