The Recent Rise of the Flat Earth Movement and pushers of this theory have taken social media by storm. The idea and interest of the Flat Earth theory has now attracted some high profile names such as American rapper Bobby Ray Simmons (known by his rap name B.O.B) and American reality star Tila Tequila.
Virtually everyone who delves into the subject of Flat Earth is thinking: "Flat Earth? Are you serious! This cannot be real! Look at the pictures!" I know. That is how I first reacted to the theory, but let us face it. We are all conditioned to believe the world and the universe is arranged in a certain way. Right from our first science class, we are shown globes of the world and told the Earth is a sphere and NASA has all the proof we need. But how do you know the Earth is a sphere? Only because you were told be a parent or a teacher, who was told be someone else, who was told by someone else, that was told by someone in "authority." We already know the tendency humanity has for worshipping those in positions of authority and accepting everything as absolute truth. Yet, we also know how easily photos and videos are faked. Those at the top, who control all we "know," do have the power to pull off such a grand deception.
Whether the Earth is flat or a sphere is not some passing conspiracy. This Flat Earth model contends that the Earth is a circle, that exists on a flat plane with the North Pole at the center and a giant wall of ice, Antartica, surrounding the circumference.
Clearly more investigation needs to be done, and as free minders and thinkers, it would be wisest to admit that we do not know rather than proceed as if we did, especially if a conspiracy, such as this, dates back so far into human history. Whatever the answer turns out to be, the idea that the Earth could be flat, has ignited an intense and healthy debate. It is encouraging to see people taking such an active part in questioning everything around them because, as Socrates showed us, questions are more powerful.
