Bob Dylan - a songwriting, musical, and performing legend - wrote and recorded a handful of songs in 1967 called the Basement Tapes after he was almost killed in a motorcycle accident in 1966. Besides the 16 songs released in 1975 by Columbia Records, most of the songs have remained hard to come by and commercially unavailable. That is, until now.
Lost On The River: The New Basement Tapes is a celebration of the never before seen Bob Dylan lyrics. While this album came out 47 years later, the impact of Dylan's music is still powerful. Not to mention, producer T Bone Burnett (Bob Dylan's guitarist on Rolling Thunder Revue) has managed to put together some of the most talented musicians today to truly do justice to Dylan's music career.
This album features some very familiar and amazing faces:
Elvis Costello
Rhiannon Giddens - Carolina Chocolate Drops
Taylor Goldsmith - Dawes
Jim James - My Morning Jacket
Marcus Mumford - Mumford and Sons
My personal favorite is Kansas City, but each song has an unique sound and showcases each of the member's talents. However, you can hear Dylan's presence in every line, which is lovely. I feel that the group did an excellent job of capturing Dylan's essence in the album.
