Black Twitter VS. Demi Lovato

You guys remember the roasting session everyone did in middle school and high school at the lunch table? How everyone would get jokes on each other at the table and it was all fun and games? Then someone, who isn't 100% familiar with the group comes around and tries to join in on the laughter but then everyone would crack jokes on that person instead? Yeah. That's the equivalent of what took place this Sunday night into Monday Morning.

The rapper, 21 Savage, was taken away by ICE due to his immigration status. No one really knew he was from Britain outside of people he has worked with. He has always been referred to as a kid from Atlanta who grew up in the projects and rose above many obstacles to obtain the status he has today. Not a child born in the U.K. and brought to the US to escape hardships. 21 Savage being taken away took the internet by storm. Initially, it was filled with worry and concern for the rapper. But, rest assured, the internet will make a joke out of anything.

While the internet is cracking jokes about 21 Savage being from the U.K., Demi Lovato, singer of the hit song, "Tell Me You Love Me", tweeted that the only thing she's enjoying about the Superbowl was the 21 Savage memes. Little did she know, this was not something she needed to comment on or express her feelings towards. Sadly, the internet did her dirty when she laughed along with everyone else. When she made that comment, many of 21 Savages fanbase decided to stand by his side and question what exactly did she find was funny. While some fans questioned her, others decided to poke fun at the fact that she abuses drugs. She abuses drug and has been to rehab multiple times. The most recent incident involved her overdosing and being sent to rehab. While many made sure to tweet their thoughts and prayers to her, others were concerned as to why the internet was so shaken over her overdosing as if rappers aren't doing the same thing.

So, given this animosity that Black Twitter felt towards Demi Lovato, it was only a matter time before things blew up in her face. Many started to bring up her past with drug abuse and being in and out of rehab. They would say things such as:

"Her crackhead ass should not be talking!"

"What makes your crack obsessed self think someone being deported is funny?"

"God was about to deport you to heaven Demi, let's not forget."

Of course, everything they are saying is extremely hurtful and it went from playfully laughing with everyone on Twitter, to bringing up her sobriety and her credibility due to her using cocaine in 2018. All of this stemmed from Black Twitter. Black Twitter is not an actual website or app. It's just what people say when a majority of people that they follow are black people on Twitter. It's like an online clique. The lunch table that likes to laugh and get jokes on each other? That's Black Twitter. Demi Lovato is not apart of Black Twitter. She is apart of celebrity Twitter, where everything she puts out can and will be used against her in the future. In this case, it was used against her immediately.

While everyone knew she was just laughing at the memes, others assumed she was laughing at the fact that he was being deported. Some fans did come to her defense and said, "We know what she meant. Come on, Black Twitter. We can't be bullies." "No matter what she does, everyone will bring up her drug abuse." Demi Lovato, has since, deleted her twitter account and stuck with defending herself on Instagram. Here, she was not safe. Others continued to bring what she said on Twitter to Instagram, where other celebrities also said that his situation was not a laughing matter. The singer did explain herself and also apologized to anyone she may have offended but the "damage" was done.

Many people are saying that Demi Lovato needs to understand that when all of her actions are in the spotlight, this comes with backlashes such as this one. Of course, it was taken 100% out of context, but this is the truth. If another rapper decided to make a meme about the 21 Savage situation, everyone might have laughed along with him. But there are many people who are thinking of the sheer fact that someone is being taken away from the family that he has in the United States. And that is a situation that does not need any comic relief.

Sorry, you felt the wrath of Black Twitter, Demi...

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
