Three Black Marvel Heroines That Should Have Their Own TV Series By Now

"Storm and The New Mutants" has a nice ring to it...

Three Black Marvel Heroines That Should Have Their Own TV Series By Now
from Nextwave: Agents of H.A.T.E. #5 (May, 2006)

Marvel and DC have been rivals for decades, trying to match each other comic for comic, but with Cyborg finally getting his own movie in 2020, Black Panther in 2018 and Vixen (DC's first black female hero) ready to premiere in her own animated TV show, I'm left to wonder, where are the show and movie deals concerning Marvel's black female superheroes?

1. Monica Rambeau, the first female "Captain Marvel" on the Avengers team in the 1980s and former leader, currently "Spectrum," would do well in her own live-action or animated series especially one centering around her time as the leader of the group NEXTWAVE: Agents of H.A.T.E. A cameo in the upcoming "Captain Marvel" movie featuring Carol Danvers, would be appropriate considering Monica was the first to carry the title. And her blunt personality is something I'd love to see with her appearing in literally any of the new Marvel Netflix series.

2. Misty Knight, a patrolwoman-turned-superhero with a cybernetic arm could be easy to include in the upcoming Civil War movies. Her first appearance is in Iron Fist so it would make sense for her to show up in his Netflix show somewhere along the line, but Agents of Shield is also a good avenue for any hero to show up that hasn't already. During Civil War she heads a team called "Heroes for Hire," but has a lot of things she gets up to before that point.
.

Last but not least on this list is...

3. Storm.

Yes, I know, every other list about black superheroes has her and she's in several movies, so why include her here?

Of the movie appearances she's had, most of them are Halle Berry, and at the time that the first X-men movies premiered it was okay since the character was on-screen for the first time. Now? I'd much rather see someone of a strong acting ability and presence play her like Lupita Nyong'o.

An origin movie for Storm could work in the fashion of "Wolverine: Origins" in that she has a LOT of backstory to tell and different avenues to go down. Picture a series about 80s Storm: starting from when she defeated the leader of the Morlocks with no powers, to running around with Wolverine's former girlfriend Yukio, to after that where she sported a mohawk for the first time and claimed her leadership of the X-Men from Cyclops (again, with no powers).

She was a mentor for The New Mutants during this time as well, a group made up of the younger students of Xavier's Institute. They were led by Danielle Moonstar (Mirage/Psyche), who's Cheyenne and has the power of telepathic projection.

Marvel doing a feature on Storm would open up much of the Marvel's universe as it pertains to the X-men's subgroups and could lead to necessary crossovers with the rest of Marvel's black hero universe. It would be a simple gateway for newcomers to understand the rest of Marvel, and grant Marvel a wider pool when it comes to recognized heroes of color that they can pull for future movies and series.

But that's just my two cents.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
