Thanksgiving has just ended, so what is on every advertisement leading up to that day. Black Friday. The day where people literally trample over one another so they have a better chance at getting that smart TV for a million percent off! Honestly, though Black Friday is the same as the lottery. Only a small percentage actually benefit from it.
Black Friday is actually a very dangerous day. People get injured or even die trying to find the best deals. That’s ridiculous. No one should die over trying to save a few bucks. Let’s not get started on parking. Oh gosh! Parking! The one time I ever went Black Friday shopping with my mom I was in junior high. Lines and lines of cars. There was nowhere to park.
Honestly, though my beef with Black Friday is that it just shows how Lord of the Flies our nation can be. It used to be that we would spend the day before Black Friday with our family celebrating the things we have. Now people get in lines the morning of Thanksgiving waiting to buy materialistic items instead of what the day is supposed to be. Thanksgiving is a whole different issue itself, but honestly, we go from coming together to fighting each other for the best gift.
I’m not saying scoring a good deal isn’t cool. I just think there are more important things to worry about. Now I understand that often time’s days like Black Friday and cyber Monday allow people to get gifts that wouldn’t be able to get otherwise. My question is does it matter that much? Is that person going to be absolutely devastated that they don’t have that mass produced item they can get any other day of the year, and on a discount after the holiday season is over anyway?
Now cyber Monday I find interesting. It allows you to dismiss the crowds and search for what you want, but again does it really matter. These days are just here so corporate America can make as much off of you as possible. Now taking a deal isn’t wrong. I love a good deal! However, fighting over material items as a way to have status is not worth it to me.
