Ask anyone in the world and they can tell you, America is a hot mess right now. Our country is plagued by gun violence, racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, good, ole' generic xenophobia, and just about any other discriminatory "phobia" or "-ism" you can think of. Despite all of this hate and negativity, there is one ray of light, and it comes in the form of Senator Bernie Sanders.
Now, I'm not saying Bernie is perfect, or that he is the perfect candidate for president, but Bernie Sanders is undeniably a good person. He has stood by his beliefs for the past 40 or more years--beliefs that everyone should be treated fairly and have equal opportunities, regardless of their socioeconomic background. He understands that the issues of terrorism facing the world today are issues pertaining to a specific radical branch of Islam (in regard to ISIS--there are certainly many other terrorist groups throughout the world), and is not representative of the entire religion as a whole-- unlike other presidential candidates who would like to prevent the immigration of individuals and promote the deportation of those already in the country based solely on their religion, country of birth, heritage, or skin color.
On Saturday, March 26, Bernie won caucuses in Alaska, Washington, and Hawaii. While he still trails behind Hilary Clinton in delegates for the national convention, this shows that people across the country are starting to feel the Bern. I could be looking too far into this, but I see this as a glimmer of hope for America. This shows that people do care about others. They care about the environment, justice, equality, and love. At a time when the world seems to be falling apart, people have managed to come together to support this candidate who sincerely strives to promote peace and harmony.
You don't have to agree with Bernie's policies, but it is hard to deny that he is a good person who is trying to make the world a better place. Even if he doesn't win the democratic nomination, I hope that Americans and people all over the world will continue to feel the Bern and look to Bernie Sanders as a role model in order to make a more caring and compassionate world.
P.S. This happy little bird landed on Bernie's podium. Birds for Bernie 2k16.
