Weird name, great products.
Birchbox is a monthly beauty subscription where you receive five sample sizes of top beauty products, including skin care and hair in the mail. Each month you get the products to try out and if you really love them you can buy the full size on their website and get a discount. Birchbox also gives subscribers discount deals and you can ship other products with your monthly box to get free shipping. I received Birchbox as a gift but I am definitely going to continue to pay the monthly $10 to keep it going.
Birchbox was started in 2010 by Harvard business grads, Hayley Barna and Katie Beauchamp, who were frustrated with spending a lot of money on products to find that they didn't even like them. So they created Birchbox, which lets you try out high-quality products without making your bank account cry. They also launched a men's Birchbox line, BirchboxMen, in 2012. Birchbox headquarters are in New York City, but they also operate in France, Spain, and the United Kingdom.
The nice thing about Birchbox is that it customizes your box for you. Each month they have a curated box with products in it the staff picked but they also have an option where you choose a sample and the rest of the products you get are a surprise based off that sample, which is what I usually do. It's fun to not know and most of the time the other surprise products I get are great. I've discovered so many new products that I now love and cannot live without from subscribing to Birchbox.
I'm a makeup junkie, so the one somewhat downside about Birchbox that I've found with my boxes is that it's a lot of skincare products and primers. Don't get me wrong, the products are great and I should probably use more skin products, but I wish I would receive more makeup products like eyeshadows or highlighters. The skincare products are great though because I've found that I take care of my skin more and it's still fun to try them out.
The best things I've gotten in my boxes these past six months are lip products. I've gotten so many great lip treatments, lip stains, and lip glosses. My favorite is the ModelCo Luxecreme Long Wear Lipstick in the color Sienna, which is the perfect everyday lipstick. This lipstick is just the right shade of red/pink that it compliments your natural lip color well, it also stays on forever and doesn't dry out your lips, it's amazing.
Birchbox is a great way to try new products and get a pretty monthly box for a reasonable price.
