Having a younger sister is one of the best parts of growing up. Having a permanent best friend to play with and growing up knowing she is the best person to tell all of your secrets to is invaluable. It can’t be denied that we often overlook how much our little sisters are a smaller, better version of ourselves. I always knew when I was in high school that I wanted to go to the same college that my older sister went to, Radford University. It was the only school I applied to, and when I got accepted I was over the moon excited. When it came time for my little sister to apply to colleges she got into Radford and West Virginia University. Of course I was excited for her, but also wanted her to be here with me. I had all these plans for her…. to join my sorority, be my lunch date every day, and to let me show her my roots in one year before I left.
She always had to be the different one out of the three of us, and of course she chose West Virginia. When I moved her in I was scared for her, and now 8 months later I couldn’t be happier for her. Not only are we biological sisters, but now we are sorority sisters. Same sorority different schools, and I couldn’t be prouder.
Even though we can’t see each other every day, she still shares the same values as me, and is a part of something so meaningful. Being in a sorority is a special bond that is shared between a group of girls, but being able to share that same bond with your younger sister puts a whole new level of meaning to it. I know that no matter where life takes us down the road we will always find a way to connect to each other. I mean, after all, we share the same blood, soul, sorority letters, and shoes.
