During the weekend of August 14-16, Disney's biggest fans flocked to Anaheim, California for the D23 Expo 2015. It's basically Comic Con for Disney fans, and after following the #D23Expo on Twitter, I'm extremely envious of everyone who attended the event.
It's amazing how much Disney has developed over the years. The updates that the Disney theme parks are about to go through is something I never thought I would see. To be honest, I still think The Jungle Cruise is really cool and that was built in the '50s! Along with new additions to the Disney theme parks, Disney movies will be getting quite the facelift as well.
Here are the biggest announcements from the D23 Expo 2015.
Star Wars Land:
Star Wars Land will be heading to both Disneyland and Disney World as it'll be Disney's largest expansion in history. No dates were announced as to when the construction will start or when the new addition will open. Disneyland will also have a Star Wars-themed version of Space Mountain!
Toy Story Land:
Toy Story Land will be added to Disney Hollywood Studios Park at Disney World. It will include a family-friendly roller coaster that takes you on a thrilling adventure while you're in the back of Slinky Dog, an alien flying saucer ride that spins you around and a 3D interactive ride with fast-paced games.
The World of Avatar:
The World of Avatar will be added into Disney's Animal Kingdom at Disney World. Animal Kingdom will have longer hours due to the entire park transforming into nighttime entertainment experiences. Its biggest ride will be AVATAR Flight of Passage, where you are brought into a scene while flying on a Banshee over the alien world.
"Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tells No Tales":
After Johnny Depp appeared at D23 Expo 2015 dressed as Captain Sparrow, it was confirmed that ORLANDO BLOOM will be returning to the big screen as Will Turner! The film is set to be released in 2017. No plot was released about Bloom's return, but I'm just excited to see him dressed as a pirate again.
"Finding Dory":
The much anticipated sequel to Disney's "Finding Nemo" finally has some details revealed! The plot of the film is that Dory, voiced by Ellen DeGeneres, is trying to find her parents, voiced by Eugene Levy and Diane Keaton. Other celebrity voices in the film are "Modern Family" actors Ty Burrell and Ed O'Neill. The film will be released in June 2016.
"Toy Story 4":
Director John Lasseter revealed that this will be something that they've never done before — a love story. He shared with the crowd that, "It's a story about a relationship between Woody and Bo Peep." I was a little hesitant to be excited about this news because of how perfectl "Toy Story 3" ended. But, don't fret! Lasseter assured the crowd that, Pixar doesn’t approve of sequels until they have a story that is “as good or better than the original."
