"Big Brother 18" premieres June 22! Eighteen seasons later, we are all still hooked on the concept of watching people confined in a house as they eliminate each other one by one until someone wins $500,000. In fact, "Big Brother" was a term coined by George Orwell, the author of "Animal Farm" and "1984." In his novel "1984" he used the word to describe the world as a dystopia. Ironically, when we watch Big Brother, we are in our own Utopia. The hit series returns Wednesday night!
The show is known worldwide. The show started in the Netherlands and ventured off to America, Canada, United Kingdom, Spain and much more. The show has the concept of the have and the have-nots. The early seasons they competed to see which houseguests would be in which category. The have-nots would have to eat PB&J for a week. However, it changed later on to eating something called "slop." A foreign substance that we are all secretly dying to try. The have-nots also are subjected to cold showers and a separate room that contains no beds. The idea of isolating people and watching them compete may seem disturbed, but trust me it is intriguing.
Most of us keep coming back for the things we love every season. The characters, the showmances, the bromances, zing bot and everything in between. No one can forget the alliance between Dr. Will and Mike Boogie. Or the love between Jordan and Jeff and the infamous "Brenchel" also known as Brendan and Rachel. Both couples announced that they are having babies. The Bromance between Frankie and Zach Rance was the most steamy of them all. The diary rooms are the greatest when you have people like Britney Haynes, Donny Thompson, Janelle Pierzina. Plus, the masterminds like Dan Gheesling and Derrick Levasseur are why the show is so great.
Three days a week, our favorite show will be back in full swing starting with a two-hour premiere. There have been rumors about an All-Stars, but nothing has been confirmed. Last year, they implemented the twin twist that was anticlimactic, to say the least. They also promised that there would be twists that never occurred. Last season -- as a huge fan of a show myself -- was disappointing, to say the least. The season before, Derrick Levasseur won the whole thing without being put up on the block. Steve Moses, known as the nerd, won the whole thing but won by being a floater. Vanessa Rousso, a professional poker player, should have won because although she was the most hated she played the game. All-Stars or not, I have high hopes for season 19. Nobody knows about the twists and turns that will occur this season. It is a summer series that you don't want to miss.
So, grab your friends and family and start a fantasy "Big Brother" league. I promise you won't be disappointed whether you are a first-time watcher or the biggest fan in the world. Just like they always say "expect the unexpected." Don't forget to watch Wednesday night!
