After the long awaited anticipation for a Bieber comeback, we have finally received it. Justin Bieber, Hollywood's favorite bad boy with undeniable charm, has come back with a catchy tune, "What Do You Mean?"
Counting down the days to the newly released single, we were teased with countless celebrities from Britney Spears to Martha Stewart promoting the album on Instagram. We've heard a different side of the Biebs with Skrillex produced tracks like "Where Are Ü Now," so the possibilites of the last summer jam were highly anticipated.
Has Bieber come back better than ever? Has he shed light on the relationship statuses of our generation? Is it easy to hit replay? A profounding YES to all three.
The new track is different from his past sounds like "Beauty and a Beat" and "Boyfriend." His new song comes after the soul-searching he's done to clean up his teenage and bad-boy antics. His new melody comes after headlines like his egg-throwing debacle, his Miami arrest, peeing in mop buckets and his unknown relationship status with Selena Gomez.
We now find Bieber apologizing for his past, and opening up a different side of himself. In a recent interview with radio host Elvis Duran on Z100, Bieber said, "I just want to be around people who I feel are supporting me, uplifting me and making sure I'm the best version of myself because there are so many people in this industry who just want to keep seeing me fall."
His new ballad starts off with dramatic piano keys, with a mix of a little electronic tempo that inspires safari-like rhythms that are authentic. This brings Bieber's love for EDM, R&B and pop music together perfectly.
"What Do You Mean?" is easily understood for those who can't explain their relationship situation.
Bieber sings, "First you wanna go to the left then you want to turn right. Wanna argue all day, make love all night. First you up, and you’re down, then you're between. Ohh I really want to know ... What do you mean?"
It's a relatable question we all find ourselves asking on what we want and how indecisive we make it. Relationships are complicated, and Justin Bieber poses the right question. It's confusing and yet the most relatable song out there for the relationship culture millennials are currently facing.
Don't worry Justin, I can assure you there are many of us out there are unsure how to answer that question, but until then we'll find ourselves singing your newest catchy four-worded question.
