Sometimes I struggle with what the Bible has to say to women and what God requires of women. In looking at what the Bible says, there may be things that I don’t like to hear or that I struggle with accepting at what my role as a woman is. Sometimes, women may struggle to hear them since it comes from a more conservative perspective. However, the Bible has a lot to say to women and I find it encouraging and uplifting that God has given me, as a woman, roles that I should adhere to. These are roles that, as a conservative Christian, I hope to strive to uphold both now and in the future. These ten verses are sometimes just what I need to hear.
1. “Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing, but a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised.” -Proverbs 31:30
2. “The older women likewise, that they be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things that they admonish the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, to be discreet, chaste, homemakers, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be blasphemed." -Titus 2:3-5
3. "The wise woman build her house, but the foolish pulls it down with her hands." -Proverbs 14:1
4. “Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord.” -Ephesians 5:22
5. “Likewise, their wives must be reverent, not slanderers, temperate, faithful in all things.” -1 Timothy 3:11
6. “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” -Romans 12:2
7. “Be anxious for mothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” -Philippians 4:6-7
8. Proverbs 31:25-26- “Strength and honor are her clothing; she shall rejoice in time to come. She opens her mouth with wisdom, and on her tongue is the law of kindness.”
9. “In like manner also, that the women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with propriety and moderation, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or costly clothing.” -1 Timothy 2:9
10. “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.” -Romans 12:1
God has given these roles to women, and as women, we should use these roles to honor and glorify God. As women, we should not be discouraged, but uplifted that God, in His glory, has given women these roles and commands that we should live by them in our day to day lives. We may sometimes not like them; I certainly don’t. But like them or not, we should use them to glorify God.
