Is The Media Biased?

Journalism used to be about the truth. What happened?

Is The Media Biased?

Did you know there were tens of thousands of people standing in the blizzard in Washington, DC? You’re probably saying no because nobody else knew either.

Abortion is one of the most controversial topics in our country, and I am not here to talk about it. I do not care whether you are pro-life or pro-choice, I care that the media fails to talk about the March For Life every year. I am almost in shock that you can have tens of thousands of individuals, young and old, standing up for what they believe, and not see or hear a word about it on major news stations.

Fairness in the media does not exist. This, to me, is unjust. The media is one of the greatest influential forces in the country. Many consider it to be one of the greatest powers of the country. My question is, should the media be able to completely ignore events like the March For Life, because it goes against popular opinion? And if it is, if one side of an argument is left out, shouldn’t it leave out the other?

A quick search on Google of “March For Life 2016” and I find that the only major media group that even said a word about it was USAToday, and that was a paragraph article that simply stated that the blizzard didn’t stop the March For Life from happening. There was an article on Fox News, but I knew that was a given. I followed that by searching “abortion laws threatening abortion rights” and up came articles from The Washington Post, Huffington Post, New York News Daily, Newsweek, and more, all containing pro-choice information. Not a peep of out major affiliates like CNN, NBC, ABC, and more about the march.

Again, it is not so much about the debate, but about the fact that there are major events being completely ignored. Why might this be? Is it fair? Is it right? To me, it’s not true journalism. Journalism should not be biased, it is about reporting the news to us whether they agree with it or not. I acknowledge the effort behind the marchers, fighting for what they believe in, no matter what. Just like pro-choice people. Yet I only seem to see one side of the story. Both should be acknowledged in the media. That’s just how journalism should work.

Abortion is a major topic in this country. Whether you are pro-life or pro-choice, there has to be fairness and truth in the media. My wish is for the media to be what it used to be, the truth. Whether it's about abortion laws or not, that’s what true journalism is.

This is not about abortion, this is about how media has changed, from truth seeking journalism to something not many trust anymore. I also acknowledge the fact that there is biased to both sides, there is lack of truth in the media no matter your views. Whether or are republican, democrat, or independent, your views should be acknowledged equally. That’s something we can all agree to. Unbiased truth in the media seems to be lost, and I hope one day it will be found again.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
