The fairytales and romantic comedies that we grow up watching and model in our everyday lives portray the “soulmate” as a romantic partner who is the love of your life. Many of us tend to accept this definition and search for someone to fit that mold just so we can say it worked out like the fairytales. To me, however, the unconditional love that you would seek from a romantic partner has been fulfilled by my best friends. I can confidently say that I consider my best friends to be my soulmates and honestly, I think this definition is really overlooked.
Here are 11 things that prove that your best friends are actually your soulmates.
1. You validate each others' strangest thoughts.
Sometimes you really need to know that you're not the only one who thinks butterflies are terrifying.
2. They send you screenshots of songs that made them think of you.
And each song is truly a jam.
3.You’ve planned a completely unlikely road trip or vacation together to some far-away place, with the attitude that you’ll totally do it one day (maybe).
Backpacking in Europe for a month? We can definitely do that!
4. Every car ride or late-night drive with them is better than the last one.
And your car ride playlist just keeps getting longer and longer.
5. They don’t mind staying up until 3 a.m. with you to talk about anything and everything.

6. They regularly make care packages for you or send letters.
Getting the mail becomes the best part of your day even though they already told you the contents of the letter a week ago.
7. They know your order at your favorite coffee shop or your favorite place to eat.
You never even have to ask.
8. All of your other friends know who they are even if they’ve never met, just because you talk about them so much.
And when you introduce them, it's like they've already known each other for years.
9. They never fail to put a smile on your face, even if you’re in the worst mood ever.
It's honestly impossible to be grumpy around them.
10. They’ll drop everything just to help you out in any way they can.
Need some eggs from the grocery store? They got you.
11. They support you and love you unconditionally and cheer on any of your successes, no matter how big or small they are.
Sometimes the motivation to put away laundry is nonexistent, but you better believe your best friend will be right there cheering you on.
And in the spirit of soulmates, I leave one of my favorite quotes and the reason for this story:
“Here’s the truth: friendships between women are often the deepest and most profound love stories, but they are often discussed as if they are ancillary, 'bonus' relationships to the truly important ones. Women’s friendships outlast jobs, parents, husbands, boyfriends, lovers and sometimes children…it’s possible to transcend the limits of your skin in a friendship…This kind of friendship is not a frivolous connection, a supplementary relationship to the ones we’re taught and told are primary – spouses, children, parents. It is love…Support, salvation, transformation, life: this is what women give to one another when they are true friends, soul friends.”
