The time has finally come for With Confidence’s debut album “Better Weather” to be released, and let me just say that it is about to be your new favorite summer jam. The Hopeless Records newbies have been releasing single after single including songs such as "Keeper", "Higher", "We’ll Be Okay", and highly anticipated track, "Voldemort" to keep fans on edge and excited for the June seventeenth release.
What I love about this album is the diversity in each song. It is not just your average pop-punk album of high-energy, feel good songs. While there are songs of that nature including "We’ll Be Okay" and my personal favorite, "Archers", fans can also expect the emotional side of the Withcon boys from piano ballad “Long Night” and “Gravity”, which is heavily driven by percussion and slow guitar riffs.
What really caught my ears as I was listening to “Better Weather” was the abundance of group vocals used in both "Voldemort" and "Archers". While "Voldemort" is an edgy song, the message of mental illness and having someone to lean on in times of trouble is prominent in the lyrics “I will try to hold you up through those times when you are gone/ despite the weather, it gets better you won’t do this alone”. "Archers" is more of an upbeat kind of song saying “we are the swords and we are the archers/ who wanted more than a normal structure/ so live it up for the ones who told us/ to lead a life that we never wanted”, saying that you do not need to lead the kind of life that everybody else does. No matter how crazy your dreams are, the only one who can pursue them is you.
Listeners will be able to tell how personal these songs and lyrics are to the band. Each song has a story to tell and the Withcon boys do a perfect job of telling these stories and making sure fans can connect with them and have their own personal interpretation of each lyric written. No matter what your music preference is, I can almost guarantee that you will be able to find a song that you enjoy off of With Confidence’s “Better Weather”. Make sure to pick up a copy and go support the boys on Warped Tour this summer!
