Do you want a productive way to spend your downtime? If you have never done so before, it is worth your while to open your mind to the world of podcasts.
There are all kinds of different podcasts available to listen to including: news podcasts, informational podcasts, funny podcasts, the list goes on. Podcasts are awesome because you can learn an endless amount of things you would have never thought of before in a short amount of time. To get you started I have a few podcasts worth checking out. Whether you're walking to class, at the gym, going to bed, etc. listening to podcasts can fill these times with entertaining information.
Freakonomics Radio- This is my favorite podcast to listen to. The host is an economist who explores “the hidden side of everything". The topics explored are interesting and can be shocking. Examples include determining what the “best" exercise for you is, why quitting can actually be a good thing, why thinking like a child will help you, etc. What I love about this podcast is that it makes you think about things differently and it opens your mind up to different aspects of every day life.
Radiolab- This is one of the most popular podcasts out there. It contains interesting investigations relating to science and culture. Each episode contains information and stories told by different people based on a single idea. Topics range from a multitude of different things. You should easily be able to find a topic that sparks your interest.
99% Invisible- Produced by Roman Mars, this podcast focuses on design and architecture. I find 99% Invisible to be interesting because it talks about the power of design and how it affects everything around us without even realizing it.
These are only a few of the many podcasts out there. Although these are all informational-based, there is a podcast out there for everyone. There are also podcasts that are strictly for entertainment purposes. If you're interested in learning a new language, there are many podcasts that can start teaching you for free. Next time you have downtime or are really bored, download the podcast app on your phone and see if the podcast life is for you. If you are bored, this could be the solution for your woes. In short, listening to podcasts is a better way to spend the time you waste everyday. I'm talking about all of that time spent staring at your phone looking at the endless stream of ridiculous content on social media. Stop wasting your time and spend it doing something that can stimulate your mind. You won't regret it.
