Wait a minute, have you heard? You are going to have to wait longer to hear any real in depth reviews for the upcoming "Skyrim" and "Dishonored 2". "Bethesda Softworks" has changed their policy for their game release. They are making it so that reviewers will not receive a copy of the game any sooner that one day before the worldwide release, which they announce on their blog.
What does this mean to me and you as gamers?
Well, not much really. Unless you are waiting to buy a game based solely on your favorite reviewer this will not affect you much at all. I think this is a decision that is based on the fact that reviewers as a whole do not do much for sales wide for the company that giving them a later copy would affect it. If you really wish to wait for the review then you should not mind waiting the extra week as gamers go through and beat the game.
I feel like this is a real bonus for gamers. Why would I say that? Because you can experience the game completely fresh! No one does this anymore, everyone looks for reviews and guides to get them through, we can go back to the time that a worldwide release really was just that. You can learn from the games on your own rather than taking everyone else's word for it.
However, this does put a damper for every game reviewer. They now go from getting the games a month or so ahead to having only one day to be ahead of every other person getting the game. This being the competitive world as it is it will result in a split kind of reviews. People who finish the game as fast as possible to be the first to send out their review or be the patient one who plays it through but gets it out way after the game has been released to the public.
The next problem people are having with it is that they might start to give out copies to YouTubers and Streamers instead. This has not been confirmed by "Bethesda" however it is a rumor kicking around because of their word phrasing. Gary Steinman, the Global Content Leader of " Bethesda" said " While we will continue to work with media, streamers, and YouTubers to support their coverage – both before and after release – we want everyone, including those in the media, to experience our games at the same time." This has caused many to think that they will start to work more with YouTubers and Streamers than with Game Reviewers.
In the end, this is not really any different than when they released "DOOM", and I know it will affect review writers but I do not see the harm to the gamers. I think it will be a good thing to go back to when we did not have spoilers and reviews before we started the game. People will be able to do everything fresh.
According to Gary Steinman "Skyrim Special Edition" will have a global release October 28 , and "Dishonored 2" will be November 11. Both games will be released for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
