I Bet You Don't Curse God

Keeping your faith when all hope seems lost

I Bet You Don't Curse God

A wise person once told me, when it rains, it pours. There is no escaping it. But when tragedy strikes in your life, when the world seems to be stacking up against you, I bet you don’t curse God. When there is pain in your life, keeping faith is the only way to get through it. Keeping faith allows you to realize the good in the world amidst all the darkness.

Isaiah 41:10 reads “do not be afraid, for I am with you; do not be alarmed, for I am your God. I give you strength, truly I help you, truly I hold you firm with my saving right hand.”

When there is a struggle in your life, it may be your first instinct to call upon God. For some, it will be to ask for his help, for others, it will be to yell at him. But when it all comes down to it, we bargain. We ask God for miracles. We beg and plead for God to take away our pain. In times of need we call on God for help. In times of sorrow we call on Him for comfort. So the next time you need Him, take a leap of faith and remember He is with you.

This article was inspired by the song “I Bet You Don’t Curse God”, by Christina Grimmie.

The world recently lost this brilliant, wonderful, faithful, and beautiful singer, Christina Grimmie. Grimmie's life was taken at a meet and greet meant for fans after a concert in Orlando, Florida. She was fatally shot by a man who is believed to have driven to Orlando with the sole purpose of shooting her. It is shocking and terribly sad what happened to Grimmie. She was only twenty-two years young. Christina was just beginning to live out her dream of performing music.

Grimmie sings:

Everybody cries

We’ve all faked a smile

When your back’s against the wall

And your hands are tied

There’s pain, Life hurts

There’s a thousand things

You think you don’t deserve

All hope is lost

When You spend it all

And you just can’t beat the odds

I bet you don’t curse God

I bet you don’t curse God

This song is a powerful reminder that no matter how bad things get, there is always something to be grateful and hopeful for.

Life does hurt. And we all wonder how we could possibly deserve certain things that have happened in our lives. But you have to remember, God will never give you more than you can handle. He gives His toughest battles to His strongest creations.

There is an incredibly well known quote that reads: "You were given this life because you are strong enough to live it." Grimmie's song unfolds this message with her faith shining through.

When all hope is lost, remember this twenty-two year old’s mantra, “I Bet You Don’t Curse God”.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
