So June 21st marks the first day of summer. School is out almost everywhere, and the weather is starting to get nicer. For us book nerds this means it's time to start cracking open a book in the park, at the beach, under a tree, on a porch swing. Summer isn't complete without a light summer read.

"Still Me" is a third in a series. The trilogy began with a novel titled "Me Before You" that was adopted into a film. It follows herione Louisa Clarke as she moves to New York City for a brand new job opportuinty. It has a cast of whacky characters, and it's a light, funny, and very romantic read.

2. "The Time Traveler's Wife" by Aubrey Niffenegger

Also made into a motion picture in 2009, "The Time Traveler's Wife" is an enchanting novel. It follows the relationship of a young woman and the man she loves throughout the years as he randomly disappears and reappears through time. It's a romance and a fairytale and the perfect read for a summer day.

3. "The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry" by Gabrielle Zevin

"The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry" is a beautiful story about family and redemption. It has a colorful cast of characters, a lovable protagonist, and it takes place in an adorably quaint little town. If you are a lover of books, you will love this book. It's fun feel and happy ending make it an excellent summer read.

4. "Big Little Lies" by Liane Moriarty

"Big Little Lies" doesn't possess as light of a theme as some of the other books on this list, but it is filled sharp, interesting female characters. It was adapted into a mini series for HBO with a super star cast. The novel follows a group of mothers in a wealthy, seaside town as they navigate through a dark matter. It will keep you on the edge of your seat.

5. "Paper Towns" by John Green

"Paper Towns" also differs from the other books on this list, as it is categorized as a work on young adult fiction. However, it is a very entertaining tale about a teenage boy in highschool who falls in love with his mysterious nextdoor neighbor. It is a story of firsts and lasts, love, mystery, friendship, and what it means to see someone for who they really are. It will make you laugh and maybe even shed a tear.

June 21st was the official Summer Solstice, so summer is legitimately here! If you're anything like me, you are definitely going to be adding sunscreen and a good book to the very top of your shopping list. I will definitely be settling onto a beach towel with a big straw hat and a copy of "The Time Traveler's Wife" next time I have a weekened off. Happy reading, everyone!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.
