4 Pros And Cons Of A Late Spring Break
Alive Campus

Binghamton has spring break this week. Yes I know what you're thinking, it is really late, and yes I do wish it wasn't so late. But having a late break isn't all that bad!

Pros of a late break:

1. Not having to face those people you didn't like in high school by having the same break

A lot of schools had spring break in march, which means if Binghamton had come home then, we would have been forced to see the exact people we went away to school because of.

2. Being home for holidays

Binghamton has a largely diverse campus of students and professors alike. Many celebrate different holidays or practice different religions. By being home in the middle of April, we get to see our family and celebrate our respective holidays(Easter/ Passover) and we get to eat a lot of food!

3. Warmer weather

When people came home in march for their breaks, the weather was still in the midst of the gross beginning of spring. It was raining and cold and it even snowed some days. At least being home now we get a break from rain and snow and cold that we see every day in Binghamton!

4. Can start bringing stuff home for the semester

If you're anything like me, you probably have too much stuff that you don't even know what to do with. Coming home late in the semester for break means you get a chance to start bringing home things you've gotten enough use out of and hopefully won't need anymore for the semester.

While having a late spring break isn't all bad, of course, there are some negatives too...

Cons of a late break:

1.Not seeing all your old friends

Being away at different schools and not being able to see your friends often is hard. It's even harder when most of them had the same spring break in march, but you were stuck at school studying and missing out on half apps sessions. It's challenging when you're apart from your friends for so long.

2. Not sure how to pack for being home

In relation to the warmer weather at home in the middle of April, it gets hard to determine how to pack for coming home. You try not to overpack, but it's hard when it's gonna be between 30-60 degrees at various times over the week. You also have to bring home all your makeup and fancy clothes for those holidays and gatherings mentioned before, and you run out of room to put it all in bags and worse- in the car!

3. Being too close to finals when you get back

When our break ends, we have 3 whole weeks before finals week begins to finish up all the work for the semester and get it all together and under control. That can be stressful especially because your brain is shut down for break mode then you have to hit the ground running to finish out strong. You may die in the end from lack of sleep or too much coffee, but at least you'll get good grades.

4. Having to wait too long for break

The first part of the semester before spring break was really long. Yes, we had a break in early march, but the semester still dragged on until we got to this break. It felt like being in a timeout while we watched everyone else enjoy their vacations and breaks early. It felt like spring break would never come.

But it finally did come, and Binghamton students are so excited for break!! I know it's hard and annoying having a late break, but when you get back you're going to do great! Happy spring break Binghamton!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
