The criminals we hear about on the news are usually the intelligent ones; the ones who manage to escape from the police countless times over. Well there are some people out there who are just not cut out for a life of crime. Here are some of best worst criminals in recent years.
Free Beer
In 2011, Derbyshire police set up a sting telling known criminals that they had won a case of free beer from some made-up company. They asked them to send their personal information to the company in order to receive their prize. 19 wanted criminals sent their information in and we subsequently arrested.
Xavi the Donkey
Important to every good robbery is a good getaway vehicle. This group of thieves in Colombia had some trouble securing a car and instead decided to opt for a donkey. They abducted Xavi, a 10-year-old donkey, some 12 hours before the actual robbery took place. (So they had plenty of time to try and find a car or anything other than a donkey really). Their actual heist was fairly successful. They robbed a convenience store and loaded their stolen goods on to the donkey. But then, Xavi started to cause trouble. The neighbors heard and called the police. The robbers escaped on foot leaving Xavi and all the stolen good behind.
Worst Disguise Ever
The purpose of a disguise is usually not just to hide your identity but is also to be inconspicuous. The disguise chosen by 48-year-old Dennis Hawkings did neither of these things. He wore a women’s blond wig, a pair of fake breasts, and clown pants. Of course, he did not shave his rather large beard before using this disguise. Obviously, his disguise was very noticeable. Right after he robbed the bank, a gas station attendant called the police saying he recognized a man that matched the description.
Semi-Armed Robbery?
Derrick Mosley walked into a gun store armed with a baseball bat and tried to steal a firearm. I honestly have no comment.
The Fall
This burglar was confronted with a locked door at the liquor store he tried to rob. First, he attempted to scale the wall, but he fell. Then he tried to gracefully drop from the shop above and fell through the ceiling. He then tried to jump back through the hole but managed to fall one more time. In the end he just gave up and sat down by the door and waited for the police to come. The best part, the whole thing was caught on camera.
The Lost Phone
Wayne Wade tried to burglarize an apartment put he did not have the greatest luck. On his way out, he ran into the tenant. He managed to get away but he left his phone behind. He realized a few hours later that he needed to get the phone or else the police would be able to track him. So he called the phone, I suppose hoping the tenant would answer and for some reason agree to give it back to him. Instead, the detective on the case answered. Instead of just counting the phone as a loss, decided to give the cops his name and tell them he needed his phone back. They tracked him down quite easily.
Possibly a Worse Disguise
Joey Miller and Matthew McNelly needed a disguise before trying to break into an apartment. Instead of going for the usual glasses and wig, they decided to draw on their faces with permanent marker. Like the name suggests, permanent marker does not come off ones face all that easily. They were quite easily recognizable to the police.
