It's December, folks, which means we can finally start the countdown until Christmas Day. If you're anything like me, the Christmas season is the best time of year. You get to eat a bunch of good candy and cookies and desserts, and you get to spend a majority of your time searching for something to do that's Christmas related. These are my favorite things about the Christmas season!
Christmas Cookies
If you know me, you know I love to eat. And at Christmas time, one of my favorite things to do is to make Christmas cookies with my mom. My mom has the best Christmas recipe ever. The cookie isn’t too sweet, and the frosting is amazing (the rule in the Byrne house is that your frosting should be as thick as your cookie -- so we usually make the cookies really thick). But even though eating the cookies is the best part (of course), making them is really fun too. It wouldn’t be a complete Christmas season if we didn’t make Christmas cookies at least a few times before Christmas rolls around.
Christmas Movies
Thanks to ABC Family’s “25 days of Christmas,” you can watch at least one Christmas movie a day, if not more (I usually watch two or three). Whether you’re at the gym, at home, or at a relative’s house, you are guaranteed a good Christmas movie if you turn on ABC Family. The best part is, you can watch Christmas movies every day from December 1 to Christmas, and it really gets you in the Christmas spirit.
Christmas Presents
I know what you were thinking when you read the word “presents” -- you think I’m greedy and selfish. And I am. OK, just kidding. What I really mean is, I love buying Christmas presents for the ones that I love. There is no better feeling than finding the perfect gifts for everyone and getting to see their faces light up on Christmas morning. (And OK, fine. I like to get presents too -- but who doesn’t?)
Christmas Music
Who else turns on the radio the day after Thanksgiving and blasts Christmas music 24/7 for all of eternity? Well, I do and I love it. The rest of the year I listen to the latest hits of pop, country, you name it. But from the minute Thanksgiving is over, I am in Christmas mode, and I will listen to nothing but Christmas music until the start of the New Year.
Christmas Pajamas
As soon as the clock struck December, I was in my Christmas pajamas. I have amazing ones with Buddy the Elf on them, and some with candy canes on them, and that’s not nearly enough for my liking. And even better, my sister and I just picked up matching Santa pajamas for the sisters to wear on Christmas Eve!
Hot Chocolate
OK, yes I know that you can drink hot chocolate no matter what time of year it is, but it’s way better while you’re sitting by a Christmas tree, watching Christmas movies, in your Christmas jammies. (How many times can I say Christmas in this paragraph? Christmas.)
Christmas Sweaters
Nothing is better than an ugly Christmas sweater party (ahem, someone throw one and invite me), and I’ll even sport a Christmas sweater on any old day in December, because the Christmas season is too short you guys!
Decorating
By far the best thing to do to get in the Christmas spirit is to decorate the house for Christmas. Throw out those pumpkins, put up the stockings, and go out and buy a tree! And nothing is better than going through our old box of ornaments while we decorate the tree while watching Christmas specials on TV.
Christmas Lights
For us Syracuse people who get to enjoy Lights On The Lake, Christmas lights are a big part of the Christmas season. It’s fun to drive by houses and see the different lights (except for the houses with no decorations, 'cause they’re clearly horrible people).
Family
No matter what else there is during the holiday season, the best thing is always family. Because I could have a million presents, Christmas cookies, and Christmas movies, and it wouldn’t be any good without my family.
OK, so exactly how many hours and minutes till Christmas from right now?
