Summer vacation is the best since you have a break from college or school!
No more homework, mid-terms or finals to worry about, but maybe, to have the best summer vacation ever!
This summer was the best. Right after my sophomore year in college ended and Manifest (Columbia College Chicago’s annual showcase and celebration of the student work) was happening, I was on a trolley and saw this guy with other people on the side walk, and I yelled out, “It’s a free trolley!”
So you’re probably wondering, 'What’s the point? You were on a trolley?'
Well, I believe in signs so when I saw this guy - let's call him “Henry,” I wasn't expecting to hear from him.
However, when I was lying in my bed and checking Facebook, I got a message. It was from “Henry,” and I was really shocked, but in a good way.
He said, “Hi Summer.” And I replied back, “Hi Henry, what’s up?”
We weren't friends or anything, but I knew him from the learning studio where I would need one-on-one help for writing and math. He was the front desk guy who checked your ID.
Also, we have a mutual friend whom I’ll call “Virginia.”
Then he said, “Well, so, it’s awkward, but I said, what the hell. So I told Virginia, already, but I know you came in to the LS a few times the past few semesters, and I had a crush on you, but I didn’t wanna say anything on the job, so I figured I’d just say hi on here, lol.”
This really made me smile because it was unexpected. And unexpected events or situations are always the best!
So we started talking, got to know one another for a month, then went on a couple of dates, and the story writes itself.
The first date was on a windy and cloudy day that turned into a sunny and hot day because I was sweating (laugh).
I was wearing my yellow high waisted skirt and my green crop top. He was wearing his hat and a sweater with some pants and a shirt, but the funny part is the wind took his hat.
Then we went to Wicker Park and ate Flash Tacos, then walked to Eporium Arcade Bar; however, it was the afternoon and I couldn't get into it because I am only 20.
So we went to Lucky Strike and played five rounds of pool.
I haven’t played pool in ages, but somehow I beat Henry three times!
It was kind of funny because I don’t play pool for fun in my free time and he didn't purposely lose for me.
So overall, I won three times, he won once and the other time he scored the eight ball so we started over.
Next, we walked to Ohio Street Beach and watched the sunset go down, talked, laughed and I was very happy because I started to have feelings for him.
A month went by and we connected immediately. I really didn't think we would since I thought we were complete opposites.
Well, that is wrong. We are not complete opposites because we are very interesting, weird in a good way and awkward. But who wants to be normal, when interesting is much better!?
When you can be yourself with that person and care for one another no matter what, you know you have someone incredible.
