"Steven Universe" is one of the best animated shows currently on television, and possibly of this generation. It's a fantastic mix of drama, action, and comedy. It combines a fantasy element from another planet with everyday life for Beach City. The characters are compelling and occasionally sing a fantastic song, which I've written about before.
Given these great qualities, I'll find myself rewatching episodes of Steven Universe instead of finding new shows to watch. I've seen each episode at least twice, but there are a handful I could watch endlessly and never tire of.
1. "Together Breakfast"
This episode is great development for the Crystal Gem's personalities as we get to see their different rooms. It's an earlier episode and a fun way to look back on how the show has progressed.2. "Steven and the Stevens"
In my opinion this musical episode is one of the best demonstrations of the show's comedic style. The premise itself is hilarious, and later leads to a great moment of dark humor.3. "Alone Together"
It's fantastic to see everyone's reactions to Stevonnie, whose existence as a nonbinary character is treated as completely normal by the way. Creator Rebecca Sugar has explained Stevonnie as a "metaphor for all the terrifying firsts in a first relationship."4. "Sworn to the Sword"
Here we have more character development for Pearl closely related to "Rose's Scabbard," from the previous season. There's a gorgeous song, epic sword fighting, and Connie as an enthusiastic student who doesn't need any juice breaks.
5. "We Need to Talk"
This is possibly the best Rose episode. As Steven's late mother she only appears through memories or video tapes. In "We Need to Talk" we get to see her sing and look gorgeous in unique lighting. It also features everyone in '80s outfits and the amazing Rainbow Quartz.6. "The Answer"
This is the most beautiful origin story for a character and a couple (all in one) that may ever exist. Plus we get subtle and compelling LGBT themes in a children's cartoon? I'm telling you, this show is revolutionary.7. "Log Date 7 15 2"
After a redemption arc for Peridot, we get to look back on events from the previous few episode. Telling the story through a tape recorded journal islike getting to see the world through Peridot's visor.
8. "Hit the Diamond"
"Hit the Diamond" is absurdly comedic as it defuses a cliffhanger from the episode before it. We get to see everyone in baseball outfits, and Ruby and Sapphire flirt. Both of which were adorable.9. "Mr. Greg"
I can't speak highly enough of this episode. It's a musical with stunning songs, and serves as a finale of sorts for a subplot. It's quite possibly the best episode, and one I've watched repeatedly.
10. "Too Short to Ride"
Peridot is extremely relatable in "Too Short to Ride." Favorite moments include how she googles "Am I having fun?" and tweeting a joke about Shapeshift Land. This episode features the "Shorty Squad" of Peridot, Steven, and Amethyst whose personalities compliment each other well.
11. "Mindful Education"
As the title suggests there's an important lesson in mindfulness and handling emotions. It's told through beautiful visuals to accompany a soothing song. This lesson is subtly reference to help characters in future episodes.
