There isn't a time of day where I'm not listening to music. My favorite songs are ones that when you hear them, you have no choice but to close your eyes and take in every aspect of the experience. I have gathered a list of 12 perfect songs to lose yourself in, in no particular order, that everyone needs to enjoy.
1. "Ribs" by Lorde.
This is one of Lorde’s best songs. Lorde has said she wrote this song after a party she threw, and how the thought of growing up terrified her. Through listening to the song, you can envision that exact party, and feel just how Lorde felt when writing this song.
2. "Old Money" by Lana Del Rey.
“Old Money” is one of the most beautiful songs Lana Del Rey has ever recorded. The song begins with Del Rey singing along to simple piano chords, as strings soon follow. The chorus is beautifully done, arranged with flawless harmonies that show off Del Rey’s whimsical vocals.
3. "Robbers" by The 1975.
“Robbers," a song by the band The 1975, is a fan favorite. This song is about a tragic, toxic relationship, but one that is, in a way, also fulfilling. Lead singer Matty Healy’s heart-wrenching vocals give the song it’s character. The bridge of “Robbers” is one that you will want to sing at the top of your lungs, on an endless loop.
4. "Control" by Kevin Garrett.
Kevin Garrett is an upcoming artist who recently supported “Here” singer Alessia Cara on her first headlining tour. Garrett himself is under the wing of Jay Z’s entertainment company, Roc Nation. “Control” features Garrett’s soulful vocals accompanied by a relaxing beat. Garret’s songwriting ability shines in this love song.
5. "It's You" by Zayn.
Former One Direction-member-turned-solo-artist Zayn Malik just dropped his debut album, Mind of Mine. This song is one of the slower ones on the record. Like Kevin Garrett’s track, It’s You relies on a relaxing beat. The chorus is fantastic, as it features harsh bass piano chords and Malik’s famous, heavenly falsetto.
6. "Safe & Sound" by Taylor Swift ft. The Civil Wars.
While the song had a pretty large impact on radio after it’s initial release, “Safe & Sound” is now one of the more overlooked Taylor Swift songs. Swift’s vocals sound celestial in this simple, folk-inspired track.
7. "Tenerife Sea" by Ed Sheeran.
Ed Sheeran’s second studio album was a huge success in 2014 and 2015. “Tenerife Sea” is one of the more stripped songs on the album. Sheeran’s wonderful singing voice is the focal point, alongside an acoustic guitar in this charming love song.
8. "Landslide" by Fleetwood Mac.
9. "Only Love Can Hurt Like This" by Paloma Faith.
“Only Love Can Hurt Like This” by English recording artist Paloma Faith is recognized as her most successful single to date. The song is written by the noble Academy nominated, Grammy Award winning and Golden Globe winning songwriter Diane Warren. The atmospheric verses and the repetitive and memorable chorus make the track stand out.
10. "Dancing On My Own" by Robyn.
This song is again one of my favorite songs of all time. The single’s somewhat devastating lyrics over an electropop, disco backing track makes the song one that can serve many purposes. You can listen to this song both when you need something to allow yourself to feel sad, but also when you want a track to dance around and have fun to. Basically, the song can be seen as an amped up alternative to Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball.”
11. "To Build A Home" by The Cinematic Orchestra.
“To Build A Home” has been used a considerable amount in film and television. You may have heard this track in episodes of Ugly Betty, Grey’s Anatomy, One Tree Hill, and Criminal Minds, or in the film titled Gimme Shelter, starring Vanessa Hudgens.
This song has an incredible build to it. The track begins with a grand piano playing a few chords accompanied by nice lyrics. The song then soon picks up speed, making the song become heavier until it fades back to just a few chords and the process repeats itself until the song's end.
12. "Hello" by Adele.
I think we can all agree that this is one damn good song. I am not sorry about including this one, not even a little bit.
And there you have it!
That was my choice for the 12 songs that are perfect to get lost in. Hopefully, some of your favorites are on the list, and hopefully, you are left with a few new favorites as well!
