2016 was pretty hopping when it comes to new music coming out. Bands that have been anticipated, and bands that made a surprise comeback as well as collaborations that blew us away were not uncommon this year. It was pretty hard to narrow a list down, but here are 8 of my favorites from this year!
- Blink 182 - San Diego
- Just, the whole new Blink 182 album was gold. Honestly, gentlemen, meaning Mark, Matt, Travis, John and everyone else involved, well done. This song specifically just did it for me. I heard Blink 182 in this song, if that makes sense. Old sound even with the new addition with Matt Skiba and even so, the new addition adds something different, but still amazing.
- Pierce the Veil - Circles
- Of all the things that were highly anticipated this year, I think the new pierce the Veil album was one I heard the most about partially because the conversation came up with anyone who saw the PTV wristband on my wrist. Oh, and was it worth the wait. Circles was one of the singles off the new album, and though singles are often times cast to the side, I really cant with this one, I loved Circles.
- Greenday - Still Breathing
- I remember when Greenday announced their new album and new tour. I immediately called my best friend who is a huge Greenday because of how much of a big deal it was to us. Getting the tickets to the shows seemed nearly impossible, but the album did not let us down. Still Breathing because a life saver during the Presidential election, and for that, its one of my favorites off the new album.
- St. Lucia - Dancing on Glass
- I LOVE THIS SONG. It is so happy and high energy! It is one of my go to happy songs for sure. St. Lucia is just one of those Indie Pop bands that just make me giddy. This was one of the songs off of their new album released this year, and holy damn its good.
- Chainsmokers featuring Halsey - Closer
- Of course. The day this song came out, I found it on the Spotify new releases track list. Because Halsey is one of my favorite musicians to date, I listened to it eager to hear her influence despite not being as familiar with the Chainsmokers. Definitely did not disappoint.
- The 1975 - The Sound
- This is another of those songs thaat are just happy and high energy. The new 1975 album was another one that I was highly anticipating especially given how much I loved their first album. Their new album however different from their first album, it landed a similar love. It offered a brighter vibe to that of the first album that was literalaly shown in the lighter colors of the art work. The sound is by far my favorite of the songs on the new album.
- Austin Jones - Miserable at Best cover
- Austin Jones…. Oh man. This man. Probably one of the most talented musicians I have ever heard. Honestly, I'm borderline obsessed with his entire Pitch Imperfect project, but this song gets to me more than the others. There is such a rawness is his voice that just does it for me. When I listened to it for the first time, I was almost thrown off by how moving it was and I was nearly brought to tears. Like…. AUSTIN. DAMN. He’s one of those musicians that I desperately want to see live…. If he is on the same side of the country as me at the same time, which I guess, that is both of our faults since we both travel but boy… hit me up, lets coordinate!
- Niall Horan - This Town
- Even though I have slowly faded from the One direction scene, Niall Horan has always had a special place in my heart, and more literally on my wrist with the purple wrist band being stratigically covered by my PTV wristband. I was always a Niall girl, and probably always will be especially given his solo, more acoustic sound that is shown in his first solo single, This Town. It has a very Ed Sheeran, Vance Joy vibe with its cutesy lyrics and acoustic guitar melody. It makes me smile. Thanks Niall.
