Terps are smart. We work hard and play hard. But when finals week rolls around, everyone can use an extra hand. Enter, Testudo. That big, beautiful, concrete filled turtle who rests in front of the McKeldin Library. Every finals cycle, students leave offerings to Testudo with the hopes that he will grant them good grades. Need help deciding what to leave behind with a rub on the nose? Look no further.
1. Textbooks.
Because chances are ,you're only going to get a few bucks for these, despite having paid hundreds of dollars for them at the beginning of the semester.
2. Clothes.
Don't walk around naked for the last few weeks of class, but giving up a favorite scarf or hat is a sufficient offering.
3. TVs.
You shouldn't be wasting time during finals week watching TV anyway.
5. Your Netflix account.
I'm not sure how this would work, but the fewer distractions, the better.
4. Coffee (cups, makers, etc).
Caffeine is the fuel of finals week. Sacrificing the beverage of life proves that you mean business (and need an A).
6. Toilets.
Anything that would require more than one person to carry, immediately moves up to legendary status.
7. Campus signs.
It's risky, sneaky, and probably illegal. But the sacrifice is totally worth it for a passing grade.
8. Alcohol.
It gave you some great memories (or maybe robbed you of all memories) throughout the semester. Say, “Thank you Testudo," and give it up.
9. Holiday decorations.
Nothing says “I went to a lot of trouble to find this," like a fully lit Christmas tree in May.
10. Furniture.
Couches, dorm chairs, the concrete benches from around the mall. You're being gracious and giving passersby a place to rest, while admiring Testudo in all his finals glory.
However, there are also a couple of things that you should not sacrifice to Testudo, unless you want to run the risk of failing that class.
11. FIRE. Flammables. Pyrotechnics.
We're trying to survive finals week, not burn down the campus.
12. Literal Trash.
Don't disrespect the turtle with your garbage.
